Hi everyone...after a long break from GW I'm back due to my love for HH and the amazing BoC box. I decided to do Death Guard cuz of fluff and i did Plague Marines as my 40k army. I've been reading every single DG list I can get my hands on as well as the many tactics out there. This is the list I've come up with and I was wondering what your thoughts were...very open to comments and critiques!

Heads up mate - you should double check some points values as your 1999-point list is actually 2069 points. You also need to edit the post and remove specific points values as per the forum rules, i.e. Mortarion, Vindicator, Deredeo are all stock, so the points value is explicit. :)

Deathshroud are also HQ choices, but that's not a big deal.

No worries. :)

Unfortunately, there's a few errors (well, more than a few) in the Forge World books. It's a mark of how much we love their stuff that we still stick with it! :) In the Legiones Astartes Isstvan Campaign Legions, Deathshroud are HQ, and also available as a Command Squad for Mortarion or Terminator-armour equipped Praetor/Delegatus/Calas Typhon. They say something about them being Elites in the Death Guard intro section though (which I think is a typo, but who knows).

Have you got the Red Books?

@caillum: ah ok well I'll take them as an hq then! I've only looked at the black books. I am trying to hold out until FW has both the red books in stock again before buying.

@fangbang: hmm good point, I originally took it to get the heavy support in position quicker and capture objectives late game. But since I took the reaping and can't go flat out maybe they're not worth it anymore?

In the new LACAL red book it still has that Death Shroud are elites, that can be taken as HQ.  I could see it being a typo in the original HH book, but it is repeated in the red book.  I would stick with what is written and use it as an elite or hq choice.  Kind of how world eater rampagers can be fast, or elite.

@fangbanger: gotcha! Last edition I played was 5th so snap fire seems better than not shooting at all.

@lordasvaldir: ah sorry typo I meant to list that the contemptor will have double dccw. I was thinking of doing a Morrtis with assault cannon but decided to do the las cannons for more reliable antitank or would you still recommend Keres?

@1000son/fedratsailor: ah well I have extra slots for both hq and elites so I'll be good either way. I'll keep me in elites. Hurry and print more red books FW!

I do love double fist on contemptors, I run two contemptors with fists/graviton guns, however to really fully utilize fists, you really need a drop pod so they can get into combat fast. Without a drop pod, I'd take an long range weapon and a fist so at least your dreadnought is not doing nothing for for the first two turns. As far as what weapon, lascannons are OK, I've never been a huge fan but you still can't go wrong with high strength, low ap, however I think the keres is better overall. It's a ton of rending shots at bs5, really the only unit that doesn't threaten much is high AV, and you've already got a few tools to deal with that.
