so ive not got the rule book yet, so want some advice ,

support squads- are these guys equip with like a special weapon?

heavy support squads- so all heavy weapons

do all 5 members have to have the same weapon?

can the squad be like 10 man or it set at 5?

any advice on weapon load outs?

sorry about all questions

cheers in advance

1) TacSupport = Every member has the same special weapon. Same with HSS

2) 5-10 Man. Can take a Rhino as default dedicated.

3) Options are

  • Tac Support: Plasma Guns, Volkite (Charger and Caliver), Flamers, Melta Guns, Rotor Cannons,
  • HSS: Plasma cannons, Autocannons, Volkite Culverin, Missile Launcher, Lascannon, Multimelta

Remember that theyre still marines in power armor. The better the weapon and the more they have of it, the more they're likely to get wiped off the map.

4) Always give the Sergeant an Augury Scanner and Artificer Armor.

In general usage terms, they're the punch to your Tac Squads Meatshield.

thanks, ok my options then

I can make 3 squads of 5 so either 2 hss and 1 ss ( I heavy bolters , 1 missile launcers and any weapons on ss

or I go with 2 ss and 1 hss

so not sure yet

they will support my

2x 20 tactical marines and my 10x vet squad

Just remember that Ap3 or Lower Blasts are relatively easy to come by in 30k so those Marines might just get vaped in a turn.

Ex: WW Scorpius. 115pt for (if stationary) D3+1 S8 Ap3 Barrage Small Blasts. or Typhon Siege Tank 48" S10 Ap1 7" Blast, Ignores Cover or Medusa Battery 36" S10 Ap2 Barrage Large Blast.

If you keep that in mind and have a game play to make sure your expensive Tac Marines dont go splat then cool.

You can make them more survivable by placing them in drop pods or in a fortification, especially if playing IW.

Also note the base tactical support squad with just flamers is not only stupidly deadly, but its I think the cheapest unit in the list at 135 with a drop pod.

So no heavy bolters?

I know my RG Support squads are landing and not leaving their Drop Pods until the damn things are destroyed. My mobile bunkers will keep those volkites killing the enemy, and plasma killing my guys, as long as possible.

Heavy bolters are thing but you dont need more ok-ish anti-infantry from Heavy Support Slot in general

Ah ... I've got six from the HH box so was thinking of making a squad of them.

Along the same thinking is the rotor cannon thing worth taking?

The Rotor Cannon really isn't great. Not enough shots to warrant a strength 3 weapon. It's like a worse Heavy Bolter, which isn't great in itself. The only Heavy Bolter marines I own are on my Imperial Fists Veteran Squad with Sniper (which are the only unit I would reallybuy Heavy Bolters for).

Shame really, cos the Rotor Cannon looks cool as hell.

Looks like I'll have a few in my bits box then. Guess if it wasn't so PA heavy a game they would be more useful.

On the plus side they look like the original Deathwatch heavy bolters with suspensor web. So may end up being a rather fluffy if not that practical addition to them instead.

Wouldn't really bother with Melta guns either to be honest (In your Tactical Support Squads). Most heavier vehicles will be plated up with Armoured Ceramite. Rhinos and cheaper machines won't be, but Melta guns would be overkill for those anyway. I'd look at Vokite Calivers or Plasma guns if you can afford the points.

The only time a Rotor Cannon is good is if you can give it Sniper special rule. I think only one squad has that option currently. Other than that its under par I think. I would rather have volkite either way.

Melta is not a bad option, especially if you mostly play against 40k armies. I have been playing 30k armies for years now and have never faced off against another 30k army.

Don't forget flamers in a drop pods, for all your deathstar needs.

That's the reason I'm scratch building a small unit - power armour marines with "assault" cannons look cool!!

Personally I'm building a volkite squad in a rhino with a power weapon wielding sgt and the same with a flamer squad - jump out, have a blast, then some assault punch left in there too.
