2500 Alpha Legion List

Good day friends,

I have assembled a somewhat untraditional 2500 Alpha Legion list and would like your comments and critiques. This army will be using the Coils of the Hydra and the Tank Hunter special rule.

LOW:

Alpharius

HQ:

Chaplain w/ crozius, jump pack, artificer armor, melta bomb

Troops:

10x Assault Marines,  power weapon

10x Legionaries, Rhino

10x Legionaries, Rhino

Elites:

9x Siege Tyrants

2x Rapiers w/Laser Destroyers

3x Rapiers w/Quad Mortars

Heavy:

9x Legionaries w/ Volkite Culverins, rhino

Fast Attack:

1x Lightning Primaris w/ 4x Kraken Penetrator missiles

Summary:

This is an army attempting to make the best use of Alpharius providing the preferred enemy (everything) and mutable tactics Tank Hunters special rules. These rules allow any model with Legion Astartes (Alpha Legion) to reroll to-hit, reroll wounds of a '1', and reroll armor penetration. The chaplain and assault marines will advance forward under cover and attempt to get a charge off (30 attacks rerolling hits, etc) or destroy vehicles (melta bombs are str 8 armorbane with preferred enemy and tank hunter, should be ideal for getting penetrating hits). The chaplain upgrade will ensure the unit doesn't break. The rhino infantry squads will be under cover and seek to gain late game objectives. The rapier batteries and volkites will offer fire support, and the tyrants will move forward with the assault squad launching 18 str 8 missiles per turn. The primarch will act as a mobile reserve. The Lightning will arrive from reserves to destroy the largest super heavy, Spartan, knight, etc.

Weakness:

The assault squad is over priced and relatively small at 10 marines. The primarch is running solo and not in a spartan and, while fleet, will be relatively vulnerable if not engaged. In addition, the primarch is not earning his points back if not in cc and will need to get stuck in as soon as possible. The army will be vulnerable to a larger air based army, lacking any real anti-air (barring fishing for 6's while rerolling hits). In addition, this force would be vulnerable to drop pod armies or any force able to get into the backfield quickly.

Hey man, looks like a decent list! :) You're not loading up units with too much extra stuff, so have a fair bit to work with. I'm trying figure out how to use my BaC box too, so here's some food for thought:

The Siege Tyrants need a Dedicated Transport... Which means dropping some to fit them in a Land Raider probably. Proteus will do, as you don't need them inside it anyway, and you can give it an Explorator Augury Web to help with Reserves manipulation.

Assault Marines are not too bad, and they help with meeting the prerequisites for Coils. Giving them 2 more power weapons is advised, along with melta bombs on the Sergeant.

Primaris-Lightning really needs BSC and GTA. Phospex bomb cluster is also a good 3rd weapon to drop on the way in, but finding those points might be hard.

Alpharius has a lot of cool rules, including Scout. I'd put him with the Siege Tyrants and Scout them 6" forward before the game starts!

Yikes, you are correct! Thank you! I'm revising the list as follows:

LOW:

Alpharius

HQ:

Centurion w/cataphractii armor (power axe, combi-bolter)

Troops:

10x Legionaries w/ Rhino

10x Legionaries w/ Rhino

10x Legionaries w/ Rhino

Elite:

5x Siege Tyrants w/ Spartan Assault Tank (w/flare shield)

Rapier x2 Laser Destroyer

Rapier x3 Quad Mortar

Heavy:

10x Heavy Support Legionaries w/ Volkite Culverins

Fast Attack:

Lightning Primaris Strike Fighter w/ Battle Servitor Control, Ground Tracking Auguries
