Hello guys,

 

after being a long time reader for many years I wanted to start my own 30K project. 

 

Like many others I couldn`t decide which Legion to play.

There are only a few Legions I really don`t like:

 

Word Bearers: Lorgar is a sissy, so is his Legion. I can`t stand Erebus and Kor Phareon. The only cool WB is Argel Tal. 

Alpha Legion:  Believe more in a few foul Xenos than in the Emperors will.

Dark Angels: They are Dark Angels...

Thousand Sons / Space Wolves: To unpredicatble how their Legion rules will be. 

White Scars / Blood Angels / World Eaters: Love the WS since the book "Scars". But to paint a whole army in white? No way, same with World Eaters and red with the Blood Angels. 

 

So I looked for the other Legions and it was still tough to decide. But in the end the Iron Warriors and Ultramarines were left. After playing with 2 Legion champions, let them kill each other (explaining my gf why I am playing Warhammer against myself) and painting 2 test miniatures I decided for the Iron Warriors:

They are quite easy to paint, so that a playable army should be ready in the next few month (except for the money that I need). I also wanted to have mainly MKII and MKIII armour, as it is so much different from the other types. And I love their fluff, especially Perturabo. Their bitterness, logical style. Even they are not one of the strongest Legions, when you look at the rules, 30K is all about a fluffy army for me, so I am fine with that.

 

After finishing the test miniatures I painted the last 3 marines I had:

This week I ordered 5 more MKII Marines, Legion command upgrade, MKII shoulder pads (reason the guys above are missing one) and a Deredeo Dreadnought. 

In the meaintime I will have time to paint the Centurion, which will be the squad Sargeant.

I am not quite sure how the rest of the army will look at the moment. I have a list in my mind, but this is chaning every day. Only thing I know is that I need one of those Spartan tanks. And I don`t want to play that typical static IW army.

Those are some nicely painted Iron Warriors (and that Ultra wasn't too bad either). Having been an Imperial Fist fan for so long and then reading Angel Exterminatus, I've developed a soft spot for the legion I should despise (albeit one covered in cold adamantium and ringed with razor wire). Keen to see where you take these guys.

So after christmas, and some time spent with MGS 5, I can finally post an update.

 

 

I finished the first squad some days ago. The Sergeant lives thanks to ebay, where I could buy the missing parts used for the Ultramarine.

And also the Centurion is now ready. Painting flesh is not for me...

As a little christmans gift for myself I bought a Deredeo. I really like the miniature. Although I thought it is a little bit bigger. I chose the Anvilus Autocannon only because of the looks.

And finally I got some reinforcements from my family for christmas. I don`t know why, but my mother thought that Perturabo would be a fine gift, and she was right!

The miniature is amazing. I am unsure if I want to paint it by myself. In the end he is the primarch and he deserves something better. I have to take a look at my wallet...

My brother bought me the Iron Hands MKIII Squad. Also really like the modells and imo they fit perfectly to the IW. I only have to change their shoulder pads.

Next order will be 5 more Iron Hands guys, so that I have a full squad and the Transfersheets, so that the Deredeo and the Centurion get their chevrons.

And another update.

 

I finished the Deredeo a few weeks ago. The base is still not done, as I am searching for some ways to create some cartridge cases.

Next were the Tyrant Siege Terminators. I searched a long time for some Cyclone Missile Launchers but had no luck here in Germany. So I bought an alternative from Anvil Industry and they turned out to be quite good.

Last but not least, the next squad that is WIP. 10 Iron Hands Marines, that will be used as Veterans in the future. Really like to modells. And the base for my coming Erasmus Golg.

Unless that Deredeo has been moving about there shouldn't be that many of its shell casings on its base

seeing as they get ejected outwards.

It is quite easy to paint them:

Armour:

- Black primer

- Leadbelcher

- Shade with Reikland Fleshshade, then Nuln Oil and at last Agrax Earthshade

- Dry brush with Ironbreaker

The darkness of the armour depends on how much Ironbreaker you use and how the shades work. I noticed that it really depends in the quality of the shade.

 

Gold:

- Retribution Armour

- 3 layers of Reikland Fleshshade and 1 layer of Nuln Oil. 

 

That is all.

Really nice models ultramarine, have you tried the ultramarine's base with the iron warriors paint scheme? This could really make them stand out. Then after the army is done you could go back and wether the army (if you wished) with some weathering powders for a dusty, gritty feel. Would look quite nice with the colour scheme. Just my two pence anyways.

 

The army as a whole does look great though and very nicely done. I especially like the siege tyrants :)

It's pretty easy to do casings by rolling out a sausage of greenstuff to the appropriate thickness and then cutting them to length. I dunno if you're looking for more detailed casings though.

@underdog6750: To be honest I didn`t try the UM base with the IW. Mainly because my 40K IW also have the same kind of base. So I could also use the 30K models for my 40k army. 

 

@Ion: I won`t be happy with GS casings, I know myself too good :). My GS skills are like the balancing of the Eldar Codex :P

So after a long time I can finally post an update.

Life is Strange and MGS5 really take their time.

 

I managed to finish the second Tactical Squad. In the future I plan to play them as a Veteran Squad.

And again far too much time has passed, since I posted an update.

My old camera vanished, just like my girlfriend^^. And so I had to organize a new one. It`s not the best camera you can get, but at the moment it is better than nothing.

 

Perturabo was quite a disappointment in the beginning. After sending the miniatur away for a commission, I was not very happy with the paint job. So I repainted the miniature myself, apart from the face and some parts of the base. In the end I am quite happy with the result. Could have gone worse.

The Cataphractii Preator from the BaC box is too good, for not using him as Erasmus Golg. And yes, I hate painting flesh.

I always wanted to use the old Deimos Rhinos for my 30K Marines. But the Forgeworld ones were a little bit too expensive for the time being, and so I had to look via Ebay. It seems a little bit strange having Marines on 32mm Bases disembark the old Rhinos, but I love the oldschool miniatures.

I really don`t like the standard 30K IW army lists, and I also wanted to include more Walkers.

I liked the Castellax since the release, and thanks to the Legion Praevian rules I had a good excuse to buy one.

In the meantime I also managed to get my hands on a Contemptor Dreadnought. I am still looking for a second Multi Melta arm, so that I can finish the conversion to the Mortis Pattern with 2 Lascannons.

And last but not least my WIPs.

The Tribun you could buy in one of the GW stores this weekend. Quite expensive for 1 model. But yeah, if you are already spending so much money for a 30K army why not.

I also had a first game with mit Iron Warriors against Dark Angels. He played some Rite of War with 12? vehicles. And because of my luck and dice throwing the game was finished after 45minutes. But it was fun, that is all that counts. And yes, thats a Chaos Cybot. It was a proxy for the Mortis Pattern Contemptor.

Great stuff !  Really like what you've done with the old school rhino's and their paint job - I've a couple myself which have had most of the bits damaged, so kudos to you for having them so complete!
