Ulrik_Ironfist
So, I was doing some reading on the 30k fluff, and It got me thinking, did stormtroopers (or their 30k equivalents) ever get armed with Volkite weapons? How overpowered do you think that would be? Could regular humans even use volkite weapons? I'm curious because I've recently discovered the wonder of the Death Ray and I want to know if there's any way I can use them... M@verik115
Volkites were already rare by the 30K timeline and insanely difficult to manufacture. Most marines were not worthy enough of being equipped with them, let alone regular humans. So no... I dont believe so. Ulrik_Ironfist
So, 30k armies are legal in 40k right? Would I be able to play my stormies as Veleterii and just spam volkite? How much rage would that cause? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/316852-volkite-guard-fluff-and-rules-question/#findComment-4245687 Share on other sites
march10k
Um...lots? /edit/ Recently had a player show up to a 40k special event to which he had reserved himself a slot (crowding out other people who wanted a slot), and then announce that he'd be playing a 30k list, take it or leave it. Then he parked a squad of ten vulkite culverins in a bunker and rolled a squad of 20 red butchers across the table in a spartan. There was some rage. Personally, I would have tossed him and drawn down the points on the opposing side to even things out. CoffeeGrunt
As far as we've experienced, 30K is about level with 40K for that ephemeral balance. Really depends on your playgroup, but expect accusations of pay-to-win and all the other stuff that goes along with a Forge World purchase. Brother Dallo
To be honest, it depends on who you are playing against. I'd have no issues with playing 40k vs 30k, apart from breaking immersion. There are some powerful units in 30k admittedly, but I wouldn't say that they are any cheesier than some of the things that can already be fielded in 40k. For a start, they are locked into one detachment, which limits spamming OP units. In short, ask the dudes/dudettes you play against if they're ok with it. It may not fly in 40k tourneys, but feel free to attend 30k tourneys instead. @march10k That list is illegal. You can't fit 20 Butchers into a spartan. Hope this is of use. Audemus
Well the Solar Auxilia most assuredly had access to Volkite weaponry both in infantry hands and in their Leman Russ variant. I'm less baffled by their non-existence in the modern 40k world, as they were rare weapons in 30k, and more confused by those two Dracosan transports you see not being around. Since they are built on a Malcador frame and the other Malcador tanks made it to 40k, I guess someone wanted to make sure the Guard did not have such god like transports in the future. Here's a shot of some of my Veletaris Storm Section with the Leman Russ Incinerator, which is equipped with a Volkite Demi Culverin, in the background. My Solar Auxilia Cohort is focused on Volkite based weaponry for the Galaxy is dark and may only be lit by the power of CHOOM! http://i.imgur.com/g0VI1OI.png Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/316852-volkite-guard-fluff-and-rules-question/#findComment-4245985 Share on other sites
Ulrik_Ironfist
So I'm going to put together a homebrew army list, of basically Solar Auxilia brought into 40k. I'm going to base it off of the Militarum Tempestus codex Here's what I have planned: Sentinels may take a Volkite Culverin for 10 points Stormies may replace Hotshot lasguns with volkite chargers for 5ppm Characters may take Volkite Serpentia for 5 points I'm going to add the senior officer rule to Commissars (to approximate the Lord Marshal). It's just causing me some problems right now. Marshal Rohr
Here is a novel idea, just buy and play a Solar Auxilia army? Velataris Tercios are troops. Ulrik_Ironfist
Here is a novel idea, just buy and play a Solar Auxilia army? Velataris Tercios are troops. Except that they don't have transport options that I like. And I really just want to see stormtroopers armed with some harder hitting weapons. Marshal Rohr
Harder than AP3 weapons? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/316852-volkite-guard-fluff-and-rules-question/#findComment-4246827 Share on other sites
Ulrik_Ironfist
Harder than AP3 weapons? Hotshots may be AP3 but they're only S3, which makes it hard to wound when you need to roll 5's and 6's. Wounding on 3's and 2's is much better even if it's only AP5, since saves forced is saves forced.
