This is the start of my tread on my Scythes of the emperor. Why this you ask me, well. I have always loved these space marines, their fluff and look capturing my mind, their stoic poses and wargear capturing my soul. I fell in love with this chapter from the first moment I heard about them.

So what do I want with this project? What are my goals? let me show you:

+- I want to create an easy, but very effective and goodlooking way of painting yellow

+- I will create a golden-demon worthy diorama about these men, their last stand against the aliens in this galaxy

+- Every model will be special, I will show how this chapter is in despair to survive, limited gear, old armor, alot of battle damage and rust

+- I will try to push my painting skills to their limits and beyond, every model will be a labour of love and time

So what do I like about the scythes? What will I consider doing in this project?

+- The Scythes are a chapter on the brink of extinction, they will use anything and everything to push their luck and hope. I love this about them, it opens up many million ways of converting/kitbasking/sculpting opertunities, great diorama, AND army material

+- I will be very open to help, comment and suggestions, the more the better, love from this community always makes every hobbyist wanting to push their projects to an even better level of work.

+- Also, I am gonna build an army of these brave marines, together with the diorama will that be the main subject in this project (Although I might go back to my lost legion. primarch sculpting and dark mechanicum projects so now and then, but those are in another thread (check my sig for links))

So, what happened to my other projects? My school work and real life has taken a few very unexpected turns (both medical and mentally). Resulting in that I am now less able to sculpt, or even pour alot of time in my projects. And seeing as I really wanted to start this Scythes project as soon as possible, this seemed like a great oppurtunity for me. Do not despair, I WILL keep on updating my other tread(s), my sculpting work (primarchs and space marines mostly) and dark mechanicum will still be updated.

I have no pictures (yet) to show you about this project, but believe me,

-+-Deucalion "the Bolt scavenger"

Deucalion was a rather young tactical marine during the war of Sotha, he was a great boon to tactical squad "The eagle eyes", his young eyes always able to make his every shot count.
Deucalion is armed in mk7 power armor, a mk 4 artificer crafted helmet (Wich he earned for himself after killing a carnifex with a krak grenade on cold copper bridge during the mission designated as "Copper protection"), he is armed with a Sotha pattern bolt gun, a mars pattern vibro-knife and a set of frag and krak grenades.

Deucalion was promoted to the rank of squad sergeant after the mission of "Mountains top", he was one of the two surviving astartes of the whole wargroup (numbering 34 astartes) send to destroy the Swarmlord that was sighted there earlier in the War on Sotha.

Deucalion now is part of a scrapper unit, his quality shots used to perfection in the horendous wars in and on ships.

Deucalion belonged to the (now almost completly decimated) 4th company of the Scythes of the Emperor chapter.-+-

So this is the first test model in this tread, is it any good? Should I add more grime/battledamage? or less? or maybe is it just right?

I will write mini-stories like this for over half of all models in this project, so that will be about 100 stories, hope you enjoyed the first one!

Natian is a long serving veteran in the chapter, one of the older living members. His wisdom, but also his inner rage, is used to great extents on the battlefield.

Most captains are happy to see his name in a wargroup name-count. Natian is used mainly as advisor, bodyguard and sergeant.

His tactical insight and wisdom was used to perfection during the tyrannic war, his mind always able to create the best plans to kill as many Xenos lifeforms with as less casualties as possible.

Natian is armed in a "Herald" pattern indomitus terminator tactical suit. He posseses a Sotha pattern power fist and a mars pattern pre-heresy twin-bolter. Natian is also armed with a set of frag grenades, and a teleport transponder.-+-

So second test miniature, changed up my yellow recipe a little bit (Added some yellow glazes and more pigments), now also starting implementing a bit of OSL and some more stronger tones (Like the red bands and a bit stronger rust pigments).

Next up, a fluff piece on what "Sotha pattern breacher armour" is. A mark of armor I will use here and there in my force:

Sotha pattern breacher armor

During the tyrannic war on Sotha and the chase after that. Techmarine Ultivak designed a new kind of warplate that could easily be build from the normal mk4 and 7 armors, combining a carapace class armor with the normal astartes warplate, he created an easy to produce, but greatly improved survivable warplate.
Only problem found during combay is a lack of movement in the neck area, making the armor rather similair to the mk2 crusade armor.

The Sotha pattern breacher armor is now being produced in relative small, but considerable numbers, greatly upping the survivability of the astartes blessed with this armor.

-+-Barian "The mountain"

Barian was a notable astartes warrior during the tyrannic war on Sotha, his high durability and uncommon warplate upgrades making him the pilar on wich his squad could build in their missions.

He acted as bullwark in most close quarter fights, only once falling back because of a dismembered leg. He proceededly shot the creature that had eaten his leg, and then used a krak grenade to finish the Tyranid creature of.

Barian is armed with a cybernetic leg, a rare, but very upgraded suit of mk5 "Sotha" pattern breacher armor, and a mars pattern artificer crafted boltgun.

His armor, and natural super-resistance has earned him the name "Mountain", he is always used for frontline warfare, and a favoured soldier for breaching actions.

Barian is now part of a scrap crew, his strong body a fine boon to his brothers.-+-

-+-Takun "Knifer"

Takun has created a great deal of doubt in the ranks of the Scythes. His improper tone against chapter master Thrasius making him a target for candidates for the most dangerous of missions.

Takun gained his dark tone of humor and jealousy during the war on Sotha, losing his whole squad to a huge sea of termagaunt organisms. He survived by climbing onto a ridge and jumping of right onto a landspeeder.

He is armed in a mix of Mk4 and 7 power armor, a Sotha pattern boltgun and a vibro-knife.-+-
-From the books of "Sotha's legacy", chapter 19, entry: 2nd company

-+-Mathean "the immortal", master of charges. Former captain of the fourth.

Mathean has a long spotless career in the Scythes chapter. He has been a captain since the creation of the chapter, not once being mortally wounded, he gained the Sothian title of "Immortal".

Mathean has been reknown as a tyrant under his troops, his ruthless leadership leaving no space for either failures or mistakes. This strong tactic regime eventually lead to the survival of a large portion of the company. He now leads all large frontal assaults on Tyranids, slowly working his way up to being the chapter master replacement for when Thrasius either dies or fails.

Mathean is armed with an ornate suit of artificer armor, a pre-heresy artefact (an ornate power sword), and a unification-era forged mithril bolter. Also an assortment of grenades and blades acompany his already formidable arsenal.-+-

That's right! The big reveal has been unleashed! Thrasius, lord of Scythes has been unveiled for the mortal eye to see! How do you like him? I spent a long time designing and building him. kits from over 10 different sets went into creating him.

I went for a special kind of terminator armor, making him stand out a bit more from the masses of terminators Im gonna have in this project.

Speaking of terminators! remember this guy?:

Soooooo... This was a great project to work on, many little details too add to the normal Stalker set, gave it new cannons, some OSL, and now it's ready to stomp some pretty xenos faces :D :P

Thrasius is superb looking! if i were to alter anything it'd be a different helmet on his belt, MKV would suit his demeanor much better me thinks.

 

I'm quite the fan of the chainfist and lion head pauldron, if my eyes are correct that'd be from a high elves kit, yes?

 

Looove the weathering on that stalker, just a minor issue, but i think the OSL on the viewport itself may have gone a little too far from the slit, it looks like it's bled a little too much.

Constaratian is the youngest living dreadnought inhabiter yet, at only 80 years of service, he has gained himself a rather great deal of honour.

On his 50th year he already had gained the status of tactical veteran, leading a tactical combat squad for the next 20 years.

During the siege of Sotha he fought valiantly like any of his brothers did, but a single action made others to believe he was a truly gifted warrior. He had fought his way through 4 tyrant guards and slain a tyrant on his own with just 2 krak grenades and his trustworthy power maul, smashing apart the creatures in terrifying speed.

Later during the siege he was laid low by a rampaging Carnifex bio-creature, his body shredded by the terrible beast.

He gained consciousness after 3 days, safely abort the main flagship of the Scythes of the Emperor. He heard terrible tales about how the chapter was mauled, but now a dark hatred burned inside of him.

This was later reinforced when he was put into the chasis of one of the mk2 light-walker Leviathans, the dark and distorted machine spirit ripping lose at the already broken soul of constaratian. He became a shadow of his former glory, now a terrible machine to be let lose on the enemies of the emperor.-+-
From the Secrets of Sotha, chapter 814, siege of war, page 9811, A dark creation.

Mk2 "sotha" pattern contemptor-leviathan light class walker.

The mk2 was made during the following years after the tyrannic war on Sotha. A few thousand parts were recovered for making a dreadnought chasis, but not nearly enough to make a codex approved version of the walker.

The need for dreadnoughts became greater and greater over the course of 5 years of retreating from the aproaching tyranid fleet. Many brothers succumbed to poisons and slashes from infiltrating tyranid groups, a dreadnought suit the only thing that could keep them war-worthy.

In desperation, the new techmarines from the Scythes started creating a new kind of dreadnought. Only two were ever made, to make sure this new dark secret would not reach the ears of other imperial authorities. The techmarines started assembling a new kind of dreadnought from a whole plethoria of surviving dreadnought parts and tank parts, making a non-mechanicum and non-codex approved new machine.

The new dreadnoughts are very easy to repair, after each new breaking part, a new better upgrade would be placed to improve the chasis. There are only two drawbacks to the whole new dreadnoughts, first of: A very instable and agressive machine spirit, even worse then that of the two Leviathans owned by the Scythes. And the now and then failing of the servo's, most parts were never made to work together, only now working togethr because of the clever, but desperate, workings of the young but adept techmarines.

These machines are only used when desperation is on it's highest, working together with the two leviathans Alexandrus and Robban, this is the main assault-support unit for boarding and ground assault actions.

So this is what i have been working on! A Leviathan siege dreadnought version made for the survivors of Sotha. Basically a orky-space marine version of one of these terrible ancient machines. I will have another one in the close future, and also two Leviathans by the end of this year. (of course for the Scythes as well). I will post a story on why the Scythes got/found all this stuff.

Also, tommorow will also be a big update day, so stay tuned ;) (Will post many pics of unpainted characters etc. Also... More tanks)

Dude. Nice. I just scrolled through this thread, and the sheer amount of creativity that I've witnessed in seeing all those pictures beggars belief that this thread is less that one page long. Great, great work so far. I love that leviathan conversion. Also: the Knight Atropos is a conversion too, no? The many, many marines you've shown reveal a staggeringly expansive bits box, which I'm kinda jelly of. I love the mix´n´match marines.
