Snuggatron
So I've been playing around on battlescribe and trying to find the best way to run my sallies where they'll be fun, cool to look at, and hopefully wont get roflstomped off the table every game. This is one of the lists I'm leaning heaviest towards, with a decent amount of dreads, the typical spartan+firedrakes+vulkan, and apothecary backed tac squads. Vulkan Primus Medicae in Cataphractii TDA 2x 15 Man Tac Squads - Sargents w/ Artificer Armour and Combi-Flamers - Legion Vexila 2x Apothecaries w/ Augury Scanners to join the Tac blobs Contemptor Mortis w/ Dual Kheres Contemptor w/ Volkite Culverin and CCW & Inbuilt Heavy Flamer Firedrake Squad - All w/ Hammers and Shields - In a Spartan w/ Flare Shield & Armoured Ceramite Leviathan Siege Dreadnaught w/ Dual Leviathan Storm Guns I think it should be a pretty ok list, it deffinately caters to my love of all the Heresy pattern Dreads, as wel as featuring the tough as nails Primarch Blob, that I feel really plays to the Salamanders' themes of durability and endurance. It has plenty of power totake out other marines and light vehicles (rhinos and the like), but I feel like it may struggle vs 2+ saves and higher armour vehicles (and knights *shudder*). What do you folks think? C&C welcome as always. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/316887-25k-dread-heavy-salamanders/ Share on other sites
Tychii
My only coment would be that it feels a pinch light at 2500. 6 different units with two of the Ming tact squads feels easy to deal with. People won't be able to deal with your dearhstar, but I imagine people will just ignore it / feed it tact squads. The dreads are nice, but unsupported as they are they make very easy targets. I would suggest dropping some fire drakes, as vulkan plus say 5-7 fire drakes will probably accomplish the same amount as ten will. Then either add more armour, or another dread for the enemy to deal with. Just my thoughts Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/316887-25k-dread-heavy-salamanders/#findComment-4246153 Share on other sites
Snuggatron
I can see that being an issue, I was hoping that the big guns on the Leviathan would thin down Tac squads and other chaff from slowing down the deathstar, also the Firedrakes are already a 5 man squad . The dreads do seem a tad exposed as they are as well, just not sure how I could go about protecting them better. most of the games this would see would be in a more friendly, narrative-style, campaign that the locals are doing as we start up 30k, so im not expecting any crazy "competitive meta" lists. Slips
Surprised your not using Cassian Dracos, the only Av14 and HQ dread or Nomus Rytan, a Chaplain who can take a Dreadnought command squad! For base-covering purposes, I'd at least take a single Deredeo in the army since he can tackle a wider variety and at a longer range than the CMortis with Kheres (which isnt bad). Otherwise, and sorry if this comes off as snobbish - totally not meant to - but 3 dreads in a ln army isnt dread heavy when you can easily field a three times as many or more dreads if you wanted to :p Otherwise, the Vulkan Doom Taxi unit soaking up half or more of your total points really limits your in terms of what punch you can bring to the list in general. Though really, who can say no to a Primarch Death Taxi? If you need a bit of inspiration, ive made a few ~5k Dreadhead list drafts in the subforum. Just search dreadhead and you should find them. Snuggatron
You don't sound snobbish at all, don't worry Slipstream. I suppose you are quite correct though, I could run many more dreads, though admittedly I was trying to find a way to "minimize" the financial impact of the force as well (or at least as "minimized" as 30k can get), hence the lower model count. It's also a springboard of sorts towards my 3k list which features the Death Taxi, Dread support, and the large Tac squads.
