shandwen
So about a month qgo I ordered a squad of these guys. Order arrives and I find a dreadnaught blastmaster arm... call FW and get them to send me the proper order (they did let me keep the worthless dread arm). I start building them (after washing them in a warm soapy basin to clean the pqrts and all. No warping or issues with the kit. But it takes forever to get the pieces to stick. Had to go out and get gel superglue instead of the normal stuff. Still takes a half a minute a piece to have the glue hold (even with scoring the smooth parts first). Qfter a good two hour have nothing but the shoulder pads left.. then I realized that with having the backpacks already on the fancy shoulders wouldn't fit (not that they fit well anyways...). So pong story short if I buy anymore Fw stuff I think I'll just pay someone else to build it for me and I'm waiting on some smaller shoulder pads to arrive to put on these guys (easier than breaking apart the models to fit the proper ones on). But perhaps ill start a wip thread on my XIII Legion. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/316986-invictarus-suzerains/ Share on other sites
Enigami
If you ever try to build any Forgeworld stuff again, try washing the pieces in warm soapy water first. The resin release agent on the pieces can get pretty bad sometimes. It usually just impedes painting but I've had it bad enough where pieces won't stick together as well. If you did wash it first, that sounds like a really bad experience. I'm sorry you've had such bad luck with forge world so far. I hope you have better future experiences. I look forward to seeing a wip log! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/316986-invictarus-suzerains/#findComment-4248226 Share on other sites
Marshal Loss
Their quality control is pretty bad frankly, but their customer service is second to none. I've had so many damaged parts/missing models over the years but every time they've been fixed without question and I ended up needlessly stressing for no reason. Hopefully you have a better experience in the future because most kits won't be that problematic. If they are unusable, just email FW again (I prefer ringing as you get a faster response) and they will replace them Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/316986-invictarus-suzerains/#findComment-4248227 Share on other sites
shandwen
It is too bad they can't be as proactive with correct orders and good quality control as they are reactive with excellent customer service. Ishagu
I will admit this particular kit was quite hard to put together as far as infantry goes. Super glue is the only way to get the pieces to stick, never use plastic glue for Resin. And yes, the shoulder pads have to go on first, with the backpack being stuck on last. I'd suggest you simply use some more basic shoulder pads, mk III for example, as ripping the packs off could be damaging to the models depending on how well glued they are. Don't let this experience put you off, the first time working with FW resin has the potential to go wrong. Other kits are more straightforward, but some can be even more difficult! *Edit* i see you're already getting smaller shoulder pads, I also think this is the best thing to do. Caillum
I see you washed it beforehand, but if you were trying to use "normal" glue (what is that, plastic glue or pva?) then you were always in for a bad experience. You should have a look at this Working With Resin video - very helpful. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4UNAjik9S80&feature=youtu.be Don't give up on FW! As Marshall Loss said, their customer service is second-to-none so they'll always help out where you need it! :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/316986-invictarus-suzerains/#findComment-4248246 Share on other sites
Slips
If you ever need to break a superglue bond, just chuck it in the freezer for 15-20 mins and it should make the bond brittle enough to easily separate the pieces. shandwen
Yeah, I have built some fw models before with little trouble (some contemptors and a sicarian). Some simple instructions would have gone a long way... but they should look good once painted. Brother-Chaplain Kage
This is why I pin everything, not just metal figures. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/316986-invictarus-suzerains/#findComment-4248391 Share on other sites
Daemon2027
This is why I pin everything, not just metal figures. I pin out of habit. Even stuff that probably doesn't need to be pinned gets pinned. Ishagu
I've never pinned anything :-D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/316986-invictarus-suzerains/#findComment-4248450 Share on other sites
KJB
I use super glue and little blobs of greenstuff - Can't go wrong with greenstuff, holds the piece in place nicely whilst the glue sets Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/316986-invictarus-suzerains/#findComment-4248502 Share on other sites
d@n
Why don't you just heat up the models with a hair dryer. Bend back pack exhausts out the way and glue on the shoulder pads?
