Do people also find that it's easier to stick to one project at a time. Or are people building up boys and bobs for different things as they go?

I find it MUCH easier to focus on just one project at a time. I had something like 7 armies on the go at one point (across 40k and Fantasy) and while many folks can cope with that, I just couldn't. I found myself buying the new kits for each army when they were released and just adding them to piles of stuff I had no time to work on. Eventually I sold a few of the armies and put the others on hold so I could focus on my 40k Minotaurs, which are now actually getting some work done on them and I do feel like I'm making some actual progress.

That said, thanks to BaC there's a lot of background preparation happening for my next project, which will be a 30k Alpha Legion force that I eventually hope to be able to use as a 40k CSM army as well.

Well I try. my Main project is My Iron 10th but i suffer from shiny model syndrom ...

Project: Iron Hands. (Am going too Finnish this before i do another army)

Project: Knight (So... I just pain this one knight it go in my 40K army.. What you mean it cant be used in 40k ..)

Project Cyber (so I started a small Mechcanicus army to go with my Knight....)

Project Iron Hands. (Right back on to my main I get this done....)

Project Word Bearers (0.0 Mhara Gal looks epic)

Project Iron Hands (Almost Finished nothing going too stop me)

Project Imp Milltia (What you mean I can have Cyborg PDF...)

Project Iron Hands (OOOO Leviathan)

Yer i total Stayed with one Project :/

Sweet Cripes Rashbold what the hell is in that pile??

Maybe he's the guy who bought 72 boxes of BaC?! biggrin.png

Nah, only 8 boxes. Although my GW store manager is trying to convince me I should have an 'even' 10.

Having too much to do can kill your motivation. Also, it's best to finish existing projects before starting new ones!

I tried the one-unit-at-a-time approach but it didn't motivate me much. I even tried to slowly build up my collection with FW upgrades and units. It left me with a few different models that just sat there half-finished.

On the other hand, when the Adeptus Mechanicus were released I went crazy buying them up. I have roughly 500+ models - enough for an entire Macroclade! I figured the 'big project' approach would motivate me to answer the call. However, I didn't anticipate the assembly troubles with the new models. I realized this collection couldn't be rushed and slapped together - I really want to do a nice job on these guys.

So now I am returning to Space Marines. All of my FW Imperial Fist and Iron Warrior bitz were sold off a few months back when I had lost my job and had to handle a few other personal challenges. So, rather than continue in my depression I decided to fire up the forge again. Iron Hands seemed apropos. The flesh has been weak for me and I need to iron it out!

When I focused on Mechanicus a while back in Kurama's "Tale of 18 Hobbyists", it was the best I felt in awhile by doing so. My limited skills are another factor of what slowed me down in regards to continuing with them.

Building Space Marines, to me, are easier - at least they're more familiar to me. And I really want to have an army to play with again.

I think that's very sage advice, and have really pulled back on the spending recently because of this fact!

I want another BaC box really before they go out of stock but having it sitting in my office judging me will really hurt I think.

I'm balancing the financial aspect pretty well so far. The BaC sets are a great bargain and have helped me get a quarter of the way to my Iron Hand goal. I still have a few bitz to add to convert some Assault Squads and Tac-Supports, etc.

I love the flow chart as well (I've been making an Excel spreadsheet for my project).

You guys give me hope that eventually I can turn to other projects after this. Thanks!

Ciao,

R.

I have 3 ongoing projects that I imagine a few are aware of:

Salamanders: Now clocking in at near 10k

Auxilia: 3k almost entirely unpainted bar basecoated lasrifles sections.

Wold Eaters: 2.5k unassembled or on the way

I find it hard to stick with one force. Like right now I'm craving painting my Auxilia Vanquishers over finishing my Firedrakes. One day I'll get bored and not touch a paintbrush for weeks, till I re acquire motivation. So my projects move with glacial speeds. I just hope my motivated bursts are intense or long enough to reasonably dent the backlog. I have at least £500 worth of unassembled FW lying about :|

I need to stop buying these damn models ugh

I set up a kanban board to track the stuff I'm "actively" working on. Helps with my planning cause it's how we do agile scrum at work.

Agile! Where the stories are made up and the points don't matter!

More vertical slices!

Er... you realize we are basically just doing traditional waterfall development now right?

Shut up, AGILE!!

Jesus, seeing all you guys' long list of crap to do has made me realise that maybe my shiny syndrome isn't as bad as first though.

Although even as I'm saying this I have another tab open so I can weigh up the pros and cons of finishing my Polux themed list, to go in my 'Unremembered Empire' army.

Or start a brutal traitor legion.

Doth my eyes deceive me?

Did I just see brutal?

Did I just see traitor?

Did I just see Legion?

Oh look at that, the World Eaters just appeared out of happenstance. Oh my.

This lots in no particular order ...

=][= Inquisitors and their lackeys

This is mainly an excuse to use up a load of random old lead models as Inquisitors and henchmen. There will be a few of the classic metal TDA Inquisitors, Necromunda Spryers, and other models which take my fancy. These will all have fluff piece attached to them and I'm hoping to be able to tie them into a few of the other projects that will be linked up to them.

=][= Deathwatch

I'll be doing atleast a few squads plus a few characters (Watch Captain, DW Chaplain, etc)

=][= Grey Knights

Another linked project which initially came about from trying to source bits to convert up the =][=. Looking at what I have access to without needing to add Theresa sizeable force which will include some old lead TDA models. ;)

Red Hunters

I fancy something a bit different and will have a fair number of marines knocking about so this is going to be the home for randome models that don't fit anywhere else

30k Space Wolves

I have up on the 40k for wolves as the wolves mounting wolves didn't sit right in my head. So I'm looking forward to starting these off ASAP!!!

40k Rogue Trader force

Just an excuse to paint a load of guard.

30k Mixed Loyalists force

Just going to paint up random legion models and use them as a disjointed force.
