Word Bearer Moritat

So, working around through lists and ideas for Horus Heresy stuff for my Word Bearers, I came across something a little disturbing and perhaps more than a little broken.

I've been playing with the idea of a Moritat. He's a very cool concept, both crunch-wise and fluff-wise. I had always sort of planned out the idea of one with two plasma pistols (because I think its one of the coolest ideas) and could really put a hurt on even terminator squads. Then something dawned on me.

The Word Bearers Rite of War, Dark Brethren. As one of its special rules, all Independent Characters are granted Preferred Enemy (Loyalist Space Marines). Now, given that this is the Horus Heresy, most opponents will be Loyalist Space Marines (some times you'll have fellow traitors but that's besides the point.) I was double checking the Preferred Enemy special rule and it states that you can reroll any failed to hit or wound of 1 in both shooting and assault. At Ballistic Skill 5, your Moritat needs a 2+ to hit and, if you take plasma pistols, you only need a 2+ to wound. With preferred enemy, you're rerolling every single roll of 1 for both to hit and to wound. Granted every eventual fail to hit will cause you a potential wound, but if you give him artificer armour he has a 2+ save.

I was giving this a test, but, hypothetically speaking, the Moritat with Preferred enemy can chain fire an almost unlimited number of shots. I tested this about 10 times and, almost every single time, I ended up with 40+ shots, and only 2 or 3 failed to wound, each and every time.

Now, am I reading this right? Is there some rule I'm missing? Cause, if not, a single model, tooled up and only costing roughly 180 points can potentially annihilate an entire 20 man tactical squad, or hell, even kill a Primarch and his command squad in one go.

Top that off, if you want to get the Phase-Walker relic from Book 4 for him, you can jump him across the board right into one of your most precious units and he can just kill it.

Did you use the FAQ that states Plasma Moritats GETS HOT! on a 1 and 2?

No, I did not see that. That does make things a bit more rounded out. I mean, he still hits on a 2+ but he can potentially take another wound from it. That and tied with the fact that he only has 2 wounds, you're looking at a real dangerous glass cannon. Slowly killing himself while he's tearing through the enemy.

If you gets hot, the Chainfire instantly ends, though, although if you miss, Preferred Enemy lets you reroll it. And without the reroll from missing, it's not as good as it originally sounds, although it's pretty good - provided you can get him there.

That said, check out the rules for Lone Killer in the Red Books;

"May not benefit from any... beneficial special rules provided by other friendly models or army-wide effects which are the result of the Rite of War."

So no dice either way.

If you do model one, I strongly suggest having him dual wield 2 bibles msn-wink.gif

Gaaah! The paper cuts!!! Oh God the paper cuts! Make them stop!

Serpentas counts as, because those cuts never stop hurting!

They can even hurt Samus, aka: the guy next to him.

I'm still waiting for someone to make a WB based in Joshua "The Burned Man" Graham. He'd make an excellent Herald or WB.

Simple enough probably... Is there a tomb kings model or similar that looks like a Mummy? Combine that with some power armour and you're golden.

Or just GS the bandages on.

It's a cool idea which I probably won't steal (lazy)

Alright there, Alexander Anderson?

"Ya Protestant fugbucket."

My second favorite Helsing rising character after Jan of course. But Alexander would have twin bayonets.

I was thinking his proper nutty page storms he does. Yes I know that's a barrier but shush.
