gmaleron
Hello everyone, after much deliberation I have decided that my Legion of choice (after much debate and list wishing with a few other Legions) is going to be the Space Wolves! They were my first army back when I started playing Warhammer in general and on top of Leman Russ being my favorite Primarch I figured it was a no brainer. Now I have a few questions as to starting an army and some regarding fluff: -Would it be better for me to start collecting now or wait for the release of the Space Wolf rules and upgrade kits? -What mark of armor did the Space Wolves use the most? I am aware that the 5th and 3rd Great Companies utilized Mark IV but what about the others? -Battle tactics and strategies, I have looked around on information pages but for the most part they just described them as brutal, vicious and ferocious in war. Guessing that means more close combat oriented? Now in regards to fluff: -Since Wulfen were such a huge part of the Prospero Burns (breaching the last Pyramid) is it pretty much a no brainer they will be a Special Unit? -Will Thunderwolf Cavalry be a part of the Horus Hersey? According to their fluff the Thunderwolves have been around since Leman Russ arrived on Fenris and it does talk about them fighting with Wolves. I appreciate the feedback guys and thanks for posting! 1ncarnadine
Welcome to the Heresy! So, from the first question down... 1. When and what you start collecting is up to you. Might be best to get some basic units while you have the energy and motivation right now, though. It's possible we'll be seeing the upgrade kits (heads/torsos/pads) drop within the next 6 months or so but the rules, characters and special units are anyone's guess. Especially with how much the Prospero book has been pushed back. 2. Whatever you want. Really. 3. There's a thread in the Tactics section about using the generic Furious Charge rule to represent Wolves, but honestly there just isn't going to be much there until the full rules drop. 4. Yeah, people are hoping to see the Wulfen. They'll probably be a special unit for the Wolves at some point. Pure speculation on that for now. 5. Not so much. The only actual wolves confirmed for models/rules in the Heresy are Freki and Geri, and they'll be bundled up with the Leman Russ model from the sound of it. Maybe SW independent characters will get to purchase a wolf companion? There's a Wolf champion with a wolf pal in a flashback in Talon of Horus after all. But definitely no wolf-riding or wolf-sleighs. That's a no. Jarl Kjaran Coldheart
First Rule of the Fang, we dont acknowledge the Sleigh The problem with the Wolves and 30k is that there isnt enough solid information on them right now. The only book to focus on them is Prospero Burns, which instead focuses on a single company who are "on display" the entire time for what they think is a spy. So it is not generally reliable for a look at the entire Legion. our only novella focuses on Russ and Bjorn. There are extracts from other books out there than can provide some information, but nothing I;d label as ironclad.Until FW stops teasing us and releases our rules, there is no firm/reliable version of the Wolves yet presented. Wolf units'll probably make appearance tough sice they are in a thousand sons, perhaps pacjs of5+ with a handler on bike? Thankfully FW is a games department not a.toy company for kids Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/317094-horus-heresy-space-wolves-questions-and-where-to-start/#findComment-4251077 Share on other sites
GhostMalone
Well now my Lil brother just made this choice and I wrote him a great 3500 point list to maximize his army pre special releases. I'd go for Assault Ram and breachers with Assault Marines destroyers and other FA that can deep strike and utilize the orbital Assault RoW Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/317094-horus-heresy-space-wolves-questions-and-where-to-start/#findComment-4251082 Share on other sites
