MSU TWC - 2k vs Necrons

After taking my little break and sorting all that junk in my room (on top of selling my Knights), I decided to go old school on the enemy and whipped out my old SW models. I played a 2k game against a Necron Decurion, trying a little concept that I mentioned a while back in one of the thread here.

This was my list:

Hidden Content

CotGW

Harald (Warlord)

WGBL - Runic Armour, Storm Shield, Krakenbone Sword, TWM, Fellclaw's Teeth, Melta Bomb, Pelt (I had 10 spare points)

Ulrik

Iron Priest - TWM, 4 Dogs

Iron Priest - TWM, 4 Dogs

10 GH - 2 Plasmas, Rhino, Dozer

10 GH - 2 Plasmas, Rhino, Dozer

3 TWC - 3 SS

3 TWC - 3 SS

6 LF - 5 Missiles, TDA WGPL

6 LF - 5 Missiles, TDA WGPL

2000pts

I wanted to avoid all eggs in one basket with a full 6 dudes in a unit.

The list my opponent was running (approximately):

Hidden Content

Decurion

Overlord with gear in a unit or Sword and Board of Lychguard

Canoptic Harvest with 1 Spyder, 5 Wraiths a Scrabas

2 sets of 10 Warriors in Arks

10 Immortals

2 units of 5 Deathmarks

5 Jetbikes

a Ctan dude

He would go first. I deployed balanced with 1 HQ and 1 IP with each unit. After he made his first turn and I saw where his Wraiths went, I sent the one HQ and IP into the closer unit, while the 3 lone TWC went to go around the weaker side. All my Long Fangs shot at the Spyder, which was deprived of cover. Still, he held whooping 5 out of 7 RP. However, this did not really help him, because when the big unit charged, 3.5 Wraiths went down. The combat lasted for a while, but in the end I lost 3 Dogs and 1 Wound on Harald but killed all Wraiths and Scarabs. SImply powering through RP worked pretty well.

The big advantage was that the other 3 TWC were able to punch their way through the weaker flank, eating the Jetbikes and one set of Warriors and ultimately and would have killed the Immortals if the game would not have ended.

Meanwhile, the big unit met the Lych Guard. After 4 combat phases, they went down and the guys charged the Ctan, taking him down in one go. All they lost were 7 Dogs, 1 TWC and everyone else was reduced down to 1 wound.

I also managed to get Domination due to the modular nature of the list. All TWC split from each other while the LF were holding th home objectives.

In the end, I was pretty pleased. Outside of massive multi-charges across the entire map, I feel like 5-6 in one go in addition to the IP, Dogs and IC feels so bloated and hard to handle. Some may not participate and all units might be trapped in melee for a while. With two units of three TWC, it offers me the option of two balanced blobs or one massive blob while a small one is taking apart smaller units. It feels a bit more manageable and more flexible. I certainly preferred this over my usual 6 dudes + 1 IC + 2 IP in one unit.

TWC weren't doing the the bulk of the damage. It were the WGBL, Harald and IP. Also, why do TWC need power weapons vs Wraiths? They have a 3++ anyway. In fact, the Furious Charge was the game maker.

Missles, because they are cheaper and can double as anti-infantry if needed. I also prefer the look of those.
