Battlefleet gothic - imperial fleet advice

Hi there

I am totally new to bfg but have just acquired a few imperial navy ships. I'm hoping you guys can give me some advice.

I have

1x retribution class battleship

2x gothic

1x overlord

5x cobras

2x unbuilt cruisers

 

Not sure if I can make many changes to the pre-built models so might have to keep them as is. If changes sound reasonable and the models allow I will try and change if required. I'd like to keep the retribution unless I can change it to an emperor easily? Ie heard good things about the gothic but do I want two? And finally what should I do with the two unbuilt cruiser chassis? I was thinking a Mars for one...

I also want to hear how people would break this force down into usable battle groups. 

So if you feel like passing on some advice for a 500pt, 1000pt and 1500pt fleets please do share!

I wound suggest building a Dictator and a Lunar of the two unbuilt cruisers. :)

Gothic are pretty specialised with double lances, so you need some more generic ships of the line. Lunar and Dictator would be my suggestions too. Honestly Lunar work really well in pairs, but you really need some launch capacity in there somewhere and dictator will do in a pinch.

 

You don't want too many battle cruisers until you've got a more solid core of regular and light cruisers, simply because of the list selection prerequisites.
