Brotherhood of the Broken Sickle

So I started this over in the WIP part of the forum but in all honesty it's a bit of a nightmare as I'm only ever actually looking at the Age of Darkness sub Forum.

This is going to log all my successes and failures in building and painting my White Scars Legion Force. Initially I'll be aiming for 2000 points and then I'll add after that depending on how often I see something shiny.

So attempt number 1 was 5 tactical marines. I did 5 as I was confident I could pull of a nice white. Interestingly I think I did. The problem is the models seemed boring and lacked character.

My conclusion was although I love White Scars too much white is a bad thing. So my aim for the next is to throw more markings in and also more weathering. The bases will also be changing to a rocky desert theme.

So this is what I have waiting for me plus the Battle for Calth box.

Made a fresh start on my squad Sargeant. What are your thoughts?

I want to do a Custom Brotherhood and hopefully add some fluff along the way. Not sure about names though. Brotherhood of the Falling Star maybe?

Thoughts and criticism is always welcome

So as requested this is how I do my White. In all honesty I look at the pictures and all I bloody see is flat white haha.

Stonewall grey basecoat

50/50 mix stone wall grey and dead white sprayed at a 45degree angle.

Dead white sprayed from pretty much straight above the model.

Stonewall grey wash painted into the recesses and a edge highlight of dead white.

I use Vallejo paints. Hope this helps and wish me luck as soon I need to somehow do battle damage and weathering. Haven't managed to pull it off yet

So I finished my first squad. Overall I'm pleased with them although I'm a bit worried that I have gone a bit too crazy with the red and weathering? They are supposed to be mostly white after all. Once Forgeworld release a transfer sheet I think I will replace the GW ones as they aren't great.

Would really appreciate any thoughts from you guys before I go any further

Cheers!

So i haven't been very productive as i've been boarding in France this week but I made a start on my Dreadnought. Base is now done and since this pic i have changed the top knot so its blowing in the same direction as the rest of the fur. What do you think? Should i add anything else?

As always cheers for looking

I think the models are excellent except for the weathering. They are all clean white until you get to the greaves which are kind of meh. Two things, make the dirtiness darker at the bottoms of the greaves instead of the tops, it looks odd. Second don't use the greaves as a dividing line for the weather. You only seem to have weathered the greaves and stopped at that line. Otherwise, I love the scheme, the white and red rocks and looks really good.

Subbed! Nice work - this is inspiring me to restart my own Scars which have been languishing far too long. Thanks for the Tutorial as well. Nicely done technique.

I think a FW order is incoming...

As an side, if you're worried about how they look (personally, they look excellent) then adjust the base colour. Change it from a grey to a brown or desert scheme. Something warm to contrast the cool of the white perhaps?

Ignore me, I'm only just discovering this thread and the first 10 are excellent.

This is really helpful! I apreciate your honesty. So leave the models as is but add a darker shade of weathering at the bottom around the feet? Also just make sure the height of the weathering is more subtle and not to a certain point. Sorry im just trying to make sure i understand so i can implement it on the next bunch.

Waiting for paint so been playing with my Praetor model. Wanted to make him look a bit different. Fairly pleased considering greenstuff is not my strong point.

Khagan stomped across the flight deck of the Silent Rain inspecting the preparations for the landing on the Greenskin infested world below. The footfalls from his terminator armour announced his presence to any before he had to say anything. Although he held no formal authority over them he was the right hand of the Reaper and as such the whole of the brotherhood deferred to him. He stood watching as the marines in the flight deck carried out all last minute checks on weapons and mounts. Jetbike engines roared to life so they could be stowed away on the Thunderhawk’s, the Whirlwinds firing mechanisms being calibrated and the pilots running diagnostics on their craft before take off.

“Departure in three minutes Khagan” came a voice as cold as an arctic gale.

Khagan span, automatically dropped to one knee and looked to the floor “your Brotherhood is ready my Khan” he would not meet the Reaper’s gaze. “You are a son of Jaghatai, Khagan. You will look me in the eye when you address me” Khagan rose and stared in to the lenses of the Wolf Skull helm of his Khan trying to fight the fear that currently ran through him. His Khan, the Reaper had learned much from his time with Mortarion and the Death Guard.....

Apologies but my English skills are awful but I have an idea for my Brotherhood now and wanted to do a bit of fluff to go along with it.

Finally decided on this scheme which is a bit darker then I had origionally planned for it. Origionally these where test models but now they will see extensive use in ZM games.

Up next a jetbike unit

As always crtitcism is greatly appreciated!
