Cheers for the comments guys. Im in full swing now so should have 2500 points done by the end of May.

AfroCampbell the markings are done with masking tape. I cut the pattern out along the length of a single strip of tape. I also measure the markings so they stay roughly the same size. The red itself is scarlet red with some light edge blending of blood red and the damage is just sponged on dead white. I wanted the models dark so havent gone too mad with it

Awesome, so was it thick tape? if you dont mind, at some point could you take a picture of how exactly you do that (I have struggled previously attempting similar, sorry for the strange request!)

I love the greenstuff skills as well btw! awesome!

Looking very nice, much like what I'm planning. I'm just waiting for bits.

The additional modelling suits the Cataphractii very much, but I've got to mark you down slightyl for the Dreadnought, unless he's a Terran Vet. ;)

Bit of a boring update but I try to be helpful so here goes.

This is the starting point. Model primed grey and then airbrushed red over the points i want the pattern.

So masking tape from poundland 2.5 cm wide not that it matters. For this pattern i wanted them 4mm high so draw 2 ligns. First is 2mm from the edge and the other is 4mm from the first. Can go straight from the edge of the tape but i prefer some extra to put the marks on so its a bit clearer

176963-24425894243-0ec3b9196f-k/]gallery_72636_11351_347165.jpg

So the pattern is 2mm wide so i mark a point on both lines every 2mm. Alternating on both lines so they dont meet

/image/176964-24685123039-f772fada4b-k/]gallery_72636_11351_42317.jpg

Connect the lines. Its never going to be perfect but it makes the sizing more consistent

Cut out the shapes always cutting from the bottom of the triangle to the top so it doesn't pull off your pattern. Make sure you use a modeling knife with a new blade otherwise you will be kicking yourself as you will tear the masking tape you have been working on. Hopefully you get something like this.

gallery/image/176966-24422130944-252b517508-k/]gallery_72636_11351_256972.jpg

And then attach. If you put the tape on loosly you should be able to adjust the position easily enough. And then just add bit of tape to cover any extra bits. Once you have it in place press on it hard so its stuck properly then you can carefully use your knife to trim any extra.

Hope thats helpful bud. Any questions give me a shout☺

These are lovely! The only thing I'd say is that 'Khagan' is an alternate title for Jaghatai, meaning Khan of Khans. It seems a Chogorian honorific, and unlike a name, seems unusual on a legionnaire (but equally perhaps that legionnaire chose to honour Jaghatai when he chose his new name). In Brotherhood of the Storm, Shiban (Khan) thinks:

I clanged back to the deck, wrenching the glaive free and swinging it around me in a gore-flinging flourish. The ravaged remains of the warlord slumped before me. I stood over it for a single heartbeat, the guan dao humming in my hand. All around me I could hear the battle-cries of my brothers and the agony of our prey.

The air was filled with screams, with roaring, with the grind and crack of weapons, with the swelling clouds of ignited promethium, with the hard burn of jetbike thrusters.

I knew the end would come quickly. I didn't want it to end. I wanted to keep fighting, to feel the power of my primarch burn through my muscles.

'For the Great Khan!' I thundered, breaking back into movement, shaking the blood from my weapon and searching for more. 'For the Khagan!'

And all around me, my brothers, my beloved brothers of the minghan, echoed the call, lost in their pristinely savage world of rage and joy and speed.

Later Yusegei recalls:

In any case, those remembrancers referred to places I have never heard of and men who never lived, like the Palatine of Mundus Planus. I do not know where they got those names from. When we were fighting the Khitan we called their emperor by his title – Khagan, a khan of khans. We had no idea what his family name was though I found it out later. He was called Ketugu Suogo. Since we keep so few records of our own, this knowledge is scarce. I am possibly one of the few left who knows it, and when I am gone, his name will be gone too.

And I love this moment, again in Shiban's narrative following on from anxiety about there Jaghatai would be during the battle:

Nobody was ever able to tell me where he had been while the assault was underway, nor how he had managed to enter combat at just that moment, without warning, without announcement.
I do not know whether he did such things deliberately, to add uncertainty to the shape of the battle, or whether it was just how matters were fated.

None of that mattered. The Khagan, the Great Khan, the complete warrior, the primarch of the V Legion, had unveiled himself at last.

He was there, right before my eyes, on Chondax.
He was there.

In terms of the Legion, the Khagan is top, followed by his mediative Noyan-Khans, then the Brotherhoods led by Khans.

Thank you. Its been a while since i read the book. I'll change that

Hope to see more of your excellent work.

Just a bit of info you might already know.Khagan simply means Khan of Khans. Genghis Khan was called Khagan.

Noyans commanded his army. Senior Noyans commanded tumens (units of 10,000). Juniors commanded mingghans (units of 1,000).

In Scars, Noyan Khans like Hasik and Jemulan are basically chapter masters or senior captains. Khans like Shiban and Torghun are line captains.

So things have been a bit busy recently but thought I would do a bit of an update. Painting wise i finished the Plasma support squad. Not the best pic but all I could get for now.

I managed to get my basic 2000 point list built in time for a game the other night so thought I would post up the details. This is what I took.

So as I fail everything he deploys first and goes first. He had Master Tactician so redeployed the Deredo slightly to the left to get a better shot at my Scorpius.

Raven guard turn 1

Right flank runs forward. Veteran squad and the castellax for everything they have and manage to kill 1 jetbike.

Left flank moves forward 6" and shoots but fails to do anything. The deredo knocks a single hull point off the Whirlwind on the left

Raven Guard turn 1 over. ( was feeling good at this points.

White scars turn 1

Jetbike on the right hand side boost all the way across to the left flank and leave the whirlwind on its own. Jetbikes are massed on the left and let loose. Total of 14 wounds caused and every one of them is saved on the chaplains 2+ armour. ( yes we was pissing ourselves at the point ) whirlwind drops 4 blasts on the Deredo and strips 2 hull points off it. Whirlwind on the right gets 2 blasts and both castellax and the praevian lose 1 wound each

So end of turn 1 and the White Scars are engaging the entire left flank and half the Raven guard including the Leviathan can do nothing.

Turn 2 Raven guard.

Right flank moves across to the left and does nothing. The castellax melta guns out of range of the Scorpius and does nothing to it.

On the left flank the deredo take a hull point of the whirlwind again and the vets take out a jetbike from the command squad.

The Fire raptor comes on and kills the Whirlwind on the left flank but fails to do anything else.

White Scars turn 2 ( turning point)

Both lightnings enter the game out of LoS of the deredo. Jetbikes on the left flank prepare for a charge on the vet squad and fire with everything. Once again the chaplain tanks every single shot. ( still dont know how this happened)

gallery/image/178710-25429488410-25a4b286f1-k/]gallery_72636_11351_351754.jpgLightnings fire Krakens in to the Fire Raptor and the Leviathan. Both recieve 3 penetrating hits and are destroyed. Both whirlwinds miss their targets and do nothing. The 2 jetbike squads charge and both roll double 1's and fail the charge (:cuss) jetbike command squad charges and wipes the veteran squad and chaplain out completly.

/178711-25429505970-d49f653015-k/]gallery_72636_11351_212479.jpg

End of turn 2 i have 3 VP and raven guard have 4

Raven guard turn 3

Castellax fail to kill the whirlwind on the and the veteran squad on the righ keep running across the board.

White scars turn 3

2 jetbike squads move on to objectives and wait. The command squad positions for a charge against the last veteran squad and praetor. Lightnings swing round and kill the deredo. All the jetbikes fire into the remaining squad and kill 8 marines including the sargent. Command squad charge and the Praeters challenge. Praetors kill each other 5 wounds against the raven guard and 1 murderous strike against the white scar. The command squad wipe out the unit.

Game over my opponent concedes.

I forget the name of the missions but it had 5 objectives and you get a point at the begining of every turn for every one you hold. A point for every enemy killed at the end of the game

So over all some mental dice rolls at times but was good fun.

The Lightnings with targets are mental.

The jetbikes performed great and re rolling 1's is awesome.

The command squad which i took because I liked the idea of but thought was stupidly overpriced was insanly good. I think we just need to pick our targets.

Ill try and do a better bat rep next time. I didnt plan this one so well. As always your thoughts are welcome

Cheers for all the comments. Yes my wife still doesn't know how much I spent on them

Stang - honestly I chose the lightnings mainly because I prefer the look over the Xiphon and also because without them I struggle with dealing with spartans without having to sacrifice a jetbike unit. Thats a last resort.

Yes they do look a lot better.

Lets get some bat rep updates soon!

Evening all

So I'm not going to lie I give up trying to manage a WiP thread so I thought I would give you an army update. Was at Warhammer world this weekend and managed to get an army pic. This is the Scars at 4500 points. I still have some plans to change things and honestly I think I'm going to drop the command squad. I will do a separate post when I get some decent photos of the army and individual units. Any thoughts would be great!
