Dragonlover
The way I'm setting up my HH stuff means I'll be able to use any of the rules for any of the Legions. I'd like to set my collection up so that the vast majority of it is usable in any game, then I can just bolt bits on to change it up. I guess what I'm after is a 1250-1500ish list or two that would fit the majority of Rites of War and such between them. I'm new to the HH side of gaming and don't have all the books, otherwise I'd do it myself. Any help is much appreciated! Tychii
Well two 10man tact squads are pretty stable. However, the rites of war change a lot of the army. It's hard to pin down "staple" units for all of them. There are some solid choices that are strong, but they may or may not fit the different rights of war Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/317334-whats-a-good-core-to-a-hh-army/#findComment-4256492 Share on other sites
Dragonlover
Really? That's a pain. Ah well, worth a punt. Dragonlover Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/317334-whats-a-good-core-to-a-hh-army/#findComment-4256555 Share on other sites
Ironwithout
Tychii got it spot on I'm afraid. Safe units tend to be Fire Raptors, Sicarans and Spartans though. Spartans are an all eggs in 1 basket kind of unit though. We do have other units which are great but those are the 3 which I have always found can sit in most lists easily. Hope that helps Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/317334-whats-a-good-core-to-a-hh-army/#findComment-4256562 Share on other sites
Lord Asvaldir
The Horus Heresy game would really lose its appeal if all the legions had a similar core they were all always using, it's the range of different tactics that varies so much between the legions that makes 30k so appealing. That being said, you definitely can't go wrong with grabbing 20 tactical marines with rhinos for each squad. Most lists and rites of war hinge around tacticals as troops, or you can use the same models as veteran tacticals if you want to go the pride of the legion route. As ironwithout mentioned there's several vehicles that everyone wants to use since they are reather good. From there though, what you want in your legion really depends on your playstyle and what models you like. m0nolith
Beyond 1d4chan's jokes and all that, you will find one of the best online resources for no BS descriptions of units, tactics, and how to make best use of them. That being said, here are units that are reliable in any army/legion: -Sicarans (regular or venator) -Spartans -Deredeo's Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/317334-whats-a-good-core-to-a-hh-army/#findComment-4256636 Share on other sites
Raktra
I'm crazy biased towards them, but I am 1000000% behind getting your hands on some Sicarans, those things are just the best tank I've ever used or assembled. Perry
A good core would be the Calth boxset, 30 power armour guys who could be tactical or veteran marines, a unit of Terminators and a dread, plus two HQ choices. Also you will end up with a load of spare bits that will come in useful latter. The tacticals will come in handy in most lists as objective holders, whilst many people enjoy fielding Terminator heavy forces (pride of the legion) and they are good at eating up points. But staple units would be a tactical squad or two, Sicarans, Fire Raptors, Contemptors, Terminators, and then add legion-specific stuff to taste. Brother Dallo
Some rapiers fit into most lists quite easily. You can either get them from forgeworld, or go down the more creative route of making your own. The big ad mech tracked servitors (Kataphrons?) provide a good starting point.
