How to use two Betrayal at Calth boxes

Greetings,

I'm currently reading a lot about how I could build up two Betrayal at Calth boxes. The constraint being that a) They're Dark Angels, so standard Crusade list for now b) no extras beyond the BaC marines for now.

The heart of the army is certainly going to be two 20 man tactical squads. This leaves me with 20 power armour bodies that I can use in different permutations, and I would like your opinion.

CURRENT PLAN

5 tactical support squad with plasma guns

5 tactical support squad with melta guns

5 heavy weapon squad with missile launchers

5 seeker squad with a variety of combi weapons

The advantage here is that this can all be built from the plastic sets without needing addtional FW purchases. However, I am currently in doubt because of...

CHOOM PLAN

10 tactical support squad with volkite calivers

10 heavy support squad with volkite culverin

I like the look & feel of volkite, and it would be a fluffy option for Dark Angels (with them having access to a lot of the old "Terran" weapons). Disadvantage here is of course having to order extra FW bits, and that this load-out would not be directly usable in the actual Betrayal at Calth game, which I would very much like to play.

Of course there can be some mixing between both plans. Curious to hear your thoughts.

On a more serious note. To get the volkite weapons is only 3 kits, so it's not really too big of an order, as far as forge world goes. Will you be ordering and of the dark angel shoulder pads? Or torsos and heads? Don't quote me on this, as I'm not able to afford BaC at the moment, so I can't really comment on the rules of the game, but could you just play it using one box worth of models?

Having thought about it a bit more, I'll be doing it like this (best of both worlds approach).

First box will be built with Calth in mind, and is perfectly usable as a 30k force using Pride of the Legion. Then afterwards, I'll see, there is indeed no reason for the tactical squads to be at the maximum, so keeping then 10 (maybe with a Rhino?) or 15 strong gives more flexibility.

This would mean that there would enough bodies for two tactical squads, a 10 man support squad with volkite calibers, a 5 man support squad, a 5 man missile squad, a 5 man seeker squad and some left over. Sounds good to me :)

If I were you, I would look on eBay for sellers of the plastic legs and get yourself a set.

Reason being is that a 10 marine MkIV Sprite set gives you enough bits to nearly build an 11th marine (a Missile Launcher marine) as you are only short the legs. He has a specific backpack and arm set, and you get enough heads / torsos / pads after you finished the remainder of the squad, you literally only need a set of legs to finish him.

Other than that, I would say take the 10 volkite claviers and maybe just have 5 of the culverins.

Can't tell you what you should do with yours, but I am going to do an Ultramarine 90th Company force (Novamarines) and my two boxes are going to break down as follows:

10 Terminators (lightning claws)

20 Tactical Marines

10 Veteran Tactical Marines

10 Heavy Support (plasma-cannon I picked up form a bits store)

5 Support (plasma guns)

5 Support (melta guns, maybe flamers)

10 Assault Marines (jump packs from Spellcrow)

I don't play much these days, I just fancy picking together some stuff for fun...

Great tip, thanks!
