Militarum Tempestus: FW Cadian Bodies on Scion Legs Idea.

Pretty straight forward question mates. Looking to do a Storm Trooper/Airborne Astra Militarum list utilizing the Elysian Army Rules, and to do that I was planning to use the Militarum Tempestus Scion models as my standard Guardsmen. However, I am tempted to order some FWCadians (the ones in theHostile Environment gear),and use those bodies combined with the Scion Legs, Arms, and Weapons. Has anyone tried this before or is there a better way to do this? Appreciate the help mates.

You're not alone in having Cadian torsos for Scions, there's a few such projects here on the B&C so the FW ones will work just the same. However be aware that the join is a little different so a bit of alteration may be necessary but not much. I'm never seen the hostile environment gear in person (I might get some one day!) so I'd take a look to make sure there aren't any potential clashes in using different bits. I wouldn't imagine this is the case but always best to be sure, and I'm certain someone can help you out with an answer too smile.png

For an example, Timmi has used Cadian torsos and there are a couple others too around somewhere thumbsup.gif

I only worked with the normal GW kits so far, but the cadian torsos and the scion arms work together pretty well. I didn't need to do any modifications on those parts. Considering that the FW hostile environment kits are supposed to be used together with the standard cadian arms, lasguns and such, i would assume that they also can be combined with the scions kit well enough. The tubes under the hostile environment cadians arms might be in the way a bit, so watch out for that. Some trimming or filing may be required, but i guess it's possible.

Using cadian torsos and scion legs requires some work, but it is not a very difficult process. The main problem is that the cadian torso has a flat bottom, while the scion legs have a round top (much like the space marine kits). Here is the way i did mine:

1. Cut off the round tops from the scion legs. Be careful not to damage the armour plates in the crotch and hindquaters areas while doing this.

2. Scrape or file the cut area to create a flat top.

3. Glue on the cadian torso.

4. Cut the thigh plates off the original scions torsos.

5. Glue those onto the legs. (either more or less in the middle like mine, or higher up in the waist area also looks great)

6. ?

7. Profit!

I also shave off the rivets and the trim on the shoulder pads to make them look less "bling"-y. This creates a flat-style armour, much like the basic cadian kits. Your mileage may vary on wether you want to do this or not.

Be careful when cutting stuff and work slowly so you can realise if something goes wrong before it's too late. But i guess that is common sense for modelling. The scion heads and backpacks a a bit more finicky to work on, but that FW solved that issue for you by making the hostile environment kits complete with helmets and backpacks, so rejoice ;) Also don't forget step 8: post pictures of your work:D

Much appreciated mate. Do you have any pictures of models that have been built this way? Or a link to where I can observe them for myself?

WarriorFish already posted the link to my own work, so i didn't include that again ;) you might also want to take a look at Vash's army, it was a major source of inspiration for me. (Link: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/299235-vashs-imperial-army-am-mt-i-imperial-knights-assassins/ ). I'm on my tablet right now so i don't have my project bookmarks ready, but when i did my projects, i did some simple google research with about the following description/keywords: "kitbash militarum tempestus scions cadians". This should lead you to some informative resources.

I'd actually suggest a little different approach. As scion kits are expensive and green stuff is relatively not, you could very easily make some very Kasrkin looking cadians with the FW hostile environs kit and some green stuff to fill in the extra armor, to make them look like Kasrkin.

I considered that, however I did come across a good convertion I think would look really good. Basically you take the Hostile Environment Cadians toros, along with the Scion arms plus the weapons, and then you use legs from the Mad-Robot CDF models. From a first glance they do seem to look pretty good together.

If you want to do that I say go for it. It'll be interesting to see how they turn out.. I'm a bit in love with the Kasrkin models, having just bought another 10, bringing my total to 36 and Sgt Kell for my banner. I've always loved the Kasrkin models, and I use them as my Grenadiers in my Kreig lists.
