2000 pts vs necron reclaimation legion

40k is a social game, if you're not having fun you're not doing it right! Sometimes that all boils down to your opponent sadly and it isn't your responsibility. There is a fair obligation to try and help and explain yes, but you can only bring a horse to water; if he doesn't drink you should look elsewhere. The hobby can be made or broken on who you play with so I would consider duz's advice and who knows, perhaps the shock of being told someone would rather play with others might be the proverbial kick he needs.

I played a game with a friend back before the new codex came out for Necrons, he played 2K against 2k of my Space Wolves, and 2K of another friend's Dark Angels (I too felt the that this was about as fluffy as a sledgehammer but still...), and despite being at a 2000 point disadvantage, he still gave us a trouncing, popping 2 land raiders in a turn with tachyon arrows.

Necrons are overpowered, and have been for a long time. In a CAD they're not so bad, now that you can't give all of your squads a 4+ reanimation in a CAD. 4+ RP is just about as rough to deal with as a 2+ cover save, as it really seems that you never have enough firepower to throw at them.

I know how frustrating it can be to play against someone who isn't familiar with the rules, new players being the exception. I tend to play my armies aggressively, always preferring to advance, and never to dig in. It's one of the reasons I play Airborne, podded or mech lists. In the Case of my Tau I play lots of battlesuits which gives me a tremendous mobility advantage, my necrons don't do mobility so much but they do the relentless march pretty well, in fact they're the only footslogging army I play, even then they can be fast, with my deep striking monolith and using the gates of eternity to pull a squad across the table.

I'll admit I don't like to lose my tough troops. I hate losing my Stormies or grenadiers, because they're supposed to be doing work, not getting slaughtered, that's the infantry platoon's job. That still doesn't mean that I treat them all like they're priceless. If you're not pulling your infantry off the table by the armful, you're either playing Necrons, or you're not playing 40k.
