sneakybamsen
Hail to thee, Brothers of the Rock! I have a plan to convert a chaplain (not Interrogator) onto a bike, and I am not sure which model is the best one to convert. I was thinking of getting a standard bike without all the extras from ravenwing, simply because I want to keep the cost low. The chaplain is one of the standard ones as well. http://www.games-workshop.com/en-DK/Space-Marine-Chaplain-with-Crozius-Power-Fist http://www.games-workshop.com/en-DK/Space-Marine-Bike Have any of you got experience with converting a chappie onto a bike? I did a librarian a few months ago, with a decent result (my first conversion), so I think I can pull a chaplain off as well, I just don't want to get a model that will be very hard to fit decently (without major gaps/holes). Lastly I don't want a model that is over the top cool, like some chaplain conversions I have seen (building all kinds of monster bikes based on Sammael on Corvex). He's not supposed to stand out too much from his fellow bikers. Suggestions and guidance is most welcome, hope to hear from you. Dark Rage
You can go with quite a few options, easiest could probably be to just give the space marine biker the chaplains helmet and crozius but if you are taking the more detailed approach maybe slicing the upper torso off the chaplain and mounting it to bikers legs like many have done with the DV libby on bike. My chaplain on bike is an interrogator I just went and used the DV Bike sergeant since the DV bikes are unique I decided to use each for a HQ choice, I plan on doing a techmarine and maybe an old school MoTRW on bike even though we don't use them no more. I look forward to seeing it =) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/317662-converting-a-chaplain-onto-a-bike-guidance/#findComment-4264185 Share on other sites
ValourousHeart
If I were making it I would probably start with a different chaplain. But I'm guessing you pick that one because you want your bike chap to have a PF. If you want to stay cheap, the best place to start is your bitz box... And you might be able to trade with stuff from your friends bitz box if you don't have everything you need. I prefer to have one hand on the bike so it gives the illusion of speed. But others like the "look mom, no hands"... To each his own. I have 4 bikers with PF and I wanted each to be slightly different. 1 is the standard job shaking his fist at the sky. For the twins I got the right and left handed PFs that are pointing, and I twisted their heads to follow the finger. For the last one I did something I hadn't seen in my area. I modeled it so that the PF was the hand on the bike and he is aiming a pistol with the other hand. The key bits you need to include for a chap are a mace and a skull mask or head. Between you and your friends you should be able to find those bitz pretty easily. FinylCut
sneakybamsen: I've a single experience with a bike chaplain. I used the standard bike, and armed him with power fist and crozius, similar to how you've indicated in your plan. I kit bashed parts to keep costs low, instead of using an official chaplain model, however. Robed biker legs, bits from the Ravenwing accessories sprue, a spare power fist, a bit of green stuff, and a skull helmet were used. You can see some WIP photos in my thread linked below on page 1, and completed photos on page 2. I'm looking forward to seeing how yours evolves. Thanks. SigBjorn
The Chaplain on bike was a very enjoyable project for me. I used a marine bike and biker feet, the torso is from Black Knights set, the hand with chopped mace from the DA upgrade sprue magnetized, shoulders from my bitsbox one with DA icon the other with the eagle. the head is CH@@S marine head. later on i discovered that the best Heads and Torsos for chaplain cames from FW (Night lords Terror squad http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/en-IT/Night-Lords-Legion-Terror-Squad-Upgrade-Pack-Heads ) On the bike the frontpart is the RW grenade launcher with a scull instead of the launcher and i cut-down the 2nd layer of wings. the bolters on the weel are from FW outriders kit. additionally i put some ribbons and purity seals made from green stuff. I think the skull a made with a face transplant from a khorne berzerker helmet. The dark vengeance bikes are super cheap on ebay. So this could be the way to go if you are on a budget. The RW grenade launcher is a great idea. Your model looks great! I only bike conversion that I have done is the Dark Vengeance Librarian and from my experience you will probably need some green stuff for connecting the torso to the legs. If you are looking to buy a chaplain, I would recommend using the other one: http://www.games-workshop.com/en-CA/Space-Marine-Chaplain-with-Skull-Helmet The one that you have selected has the scroll hanging from the waist and may be molded to the legs. I am assuming it is casted as one piece with the exceptions of the arms. The other chaplain has the legs exposed and you could cut the legs at the hips and keep the ornate cod piece. The site says that it is casted in three pieces which I assume is the body with crozius, back pack and pistol arm (that is if it is like the jump chaplain kit that I assembled). I think the bike you selected would make for an easier conversion since the legs are separate from the bike but the Dark Vengeance bikes on eBay would be a cheaper alternative. Brother Syddraf
I used the black knight grenade launcher for the front too then did a couple of small rods for candles and liquid green stuffed melted wax which helped to cover any small gaps/errors I'll get a picture up tonight Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/317662-converting-a-chaplain-onto-a-bike-guidance/#findComment-4264475 Share on other sites
Pigshead
I'm about to start this same project, Sneakybamsen. I've ordered a bike, a RW bike banner thingy, some Black Knight legs with robes, and a few arms and what have you off ebay, and I'm going to Warhammer world next week where, among other things, I plan on picking up another of the new Interrogator Chaplain models, and removing his power fist arm for a standard biker arm. I actually have no idea if this will work, so I look forward to seeing how you do it. Pigshead
I love your biker chappy, Elmo. But the DV chaplain goes for £15-20 on eBay, which seems a lot for a head... I've been trying to find a decent third party skull helmet to basically do what you did. sneakybamsen
Thanks for all the feedback so far. Makes a brother happy =) I forgot to mention in my first post that my plan is to lob the legs off the chaplain and stick his torso onto the legs of the biker. Also plan to replace his PF-wielding arm with one from the biker that will allow him to hold one of the handlebars on the bike ("no hands, mommy!" looks a bit silly imho). I'm planning on getting and using a bit of green stuff for both this one and the libby I did earlier, as he has a gap around his left arm (beneath the shoulderpad) which I would like to close if possible. I have had a look at one of these older chaplains on bike, and the ones I do find on ebay are not that great looking (dodgy paintjobs), and they almost end up costing the same anyways with shipping and all. As that is the case, I'd rather just do a conversion myself, as the result I get imho ends up being cooler than the older chaplains with the before mentioned dodgy paintjobs. Timewise it ends up being about the same anyways. Please do keep the suggestions flowing =) Here's mine: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/231205-stobzz-dangles-hello-darkness-my-old-friend/page-18?do=findComment&comment=3190503 http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/231205-stobzz-dangles-hello-darkness-my-old-friend/page-19?do=findComment&comment=3191385 And how he was done: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/231205-stobzz-dangles-hello-darkness-my-old-friend/page-19?do=findComment&comment=3193086 Sorry about the huge links, something is not working right at my end... sneakybamsen
I ordered the parts yesterday for this conversion, so hopefully life will allow me time to get this one done within this month, at least the conversion. I have a massive backlog of painting to be done, can field double demi, but not even a single demi is painted to completion (not a fast nor a good painter). I decided to get the simpler of the two chaplains on foot GW have on their website as webshop exclusives, as the one I had linked originally didn't have the best stance for swapping an arm for the biker one (grip on the handlebar of the bike), and his crozius would most likely have to be chopped to make it fit due to the different position of legs and such. So this one is the one I'm hoping will make this a smooth job: http://www.games-workshop.com/en-DK/Space-Marine-Chaplain-with-Skull-Helmet Replacing his Bolt Pistol arm with the biker one should be manageable after some cutting and trimming. And some green stuff. I'll try to keep the belt intact, but we'll see how it goes =) Regards Sneaky Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/317662-converting-a-chaplain-onto-a-bike-guidance/#findComment-4269022 Share on other sites

While I have seen your trike elsewhere on this forum, and it is super tidy work, it's not quite what I want for my chappie. I prefer to keep it simpler and less attracting to the eye (hopefully they'll then shoot less at my bikers...) =) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/317662-converting-a-chaplain-onto-a-bike-guidance/#findComment-4269098 Share on other sites
