Garro Novella out

New Garro novella out: $50 for limited ed hardback (just like others) and now ebook version $30. I picked up the ebook and, while the page layout looks pretty close to how a trade paperback is formatted (I hope) it actually has almost 200 pages before an extract from Wolf King (another AMAZING HH novella) and standard license brickabrack.

Lowered print amount to 2,500 printed. Seems to show experience with the sweet spot to ensure they all sell. Was 4,000 then for Raven Guard stuff moved down to 3,000 and not sell out *as fast* so this seems like a good move. Between BaC, Pharos, Garro, and anthology next month my eyes, they are strained:)

another limited edition. colour me surprised.

followed garro throughout and now missing a major part of his story because yet another limited edition prices me out.

its a piss take how common these limited edition half-novels are. You have to go to EA to find a place that more blatantly milks its customerbase

If it follows the same path as previous HH novellas and hasn't sped up, we shall get a cheaper version and the audio book in 18 months.

While I agree that it's pricey, let's not get out of control with the comparisons here.

Remember that EA made Dungeon Keeper Mobile, that's not 'merely' milking your customers, that urinating in their cornflakes and expecting them to pay you for it.

Have you actually tried the game? This is getting way off-topic, but I feel people are hating the DK game for wrong reasons. Give it a try, I think it's the best mobile freemium game out there, having decent guild systems, frequent tournaments, content updates, single player campaign etc. I admit it's a bit slow to begin, but raiding later in the game is quite fun and you don't need to pay to win. I play in a guild usually placing in top-10 in tournaments and only once paid during early game to get an extra imp faster.

On the topic, it is good improvement that the ebook version is cheaper than the hard-cover. The ebook version seems to be missing the 'extra bits' pages of the hard-cover though. I just wish they would make it so that if you buy the hard-cover, you would automatically be entitled for the ebook version too.

So much to read, so little time..

Sigismund is in it?! :O

Yes, but I didn't finish reading, he appears early on the book. I dont know if he will appear again.

He only appears the once.

$30 for the eBook version of a novella you say?

I'm confused by your tactics, BL. There isn't a full length novel on my Kindle that costs more than $15. Hell most of them are less than $10.

More Hell, I bought a bundle of 6 HH novels from you for $50...

Pricing tactics aside, I wonder if BL is gearing up to a Garro-centric Heresy book combining all of the audios (rewritten for prose) and the novella (plus possibly another novella or something of a kind) into a singular tome akin to Legacies of Betrayal, Mark of Calth, etc. I would not be surprised to see that re-released as a standalone Heresy title, and given a place as a book in the series. For those of us who do not typically go for audios (and who may choose to avoid the novella because it follows up from those audios), this would be a must-buy as a series Heresy novel.

I would love that - perhaps at some point down the line...

I have ordered the new novella - looking forward to it!

$30 for an ebook novel is stupid. $30 for an ebook novella is insulting. Between prices like that and the conspicuous lack of a review system, I went from a Black Library regular to essentially ignoring them.

There's a review system coming soon:

  Quote

Join the Librarium and become an elite Black Library reviewer. Get a new novel every month – starting with The Horus Heresy: Pharos by Guy Haley – and submit reviews for use on the website. Also includes an exclusive short story only available to Librarium members.

Personally, I'm not sure that this scheme will amass the most objective reviewers. Willingness to pre-purchase novels without knowing what they're about strikes me as an indicator of bias.

Of course, I could be wrong. The Horus Heresy and the Beast Arises alone would be reason enough for a lot of fair-minded individuals to subscribe, hoping of getting novels from those series at a discount. Something tells, however me that the novels that will be part of this scheme will not necessarily be the most anticipated releases of the year. That's just a matter of math; as much as we might complain about Black Library's pricing scheme, I doubt anyone is expecting to see many more Heresy novels beyond Pharos to be given to subscribers for an average of £6.25.

6.5 out of 10   Needed more Sigismund

Though Interesting enough.

Sounds like it'll be an interesting audiobook if they ever release one. Not sure why there should be more Sigismund since this is Garros story.

Thats just me being bias XD  I want more Sigismund cause  hes my favorite character outside Bjorn of the Space Wolves in the HH  plus a Sigismund / Garro buddy cop movie would be sick and you know it friend

I well  definitely say Sigismund is written very well here and seems consistent with his other depictions

Garro as always comes across as very deep  and his inner conflicts  while I dont feel they are properly resolved really make it apparent that hes something special among even the Knights Errant a Group of very special dudes

Yeah I figured that you are a Sigismund fan and I understand that it's all good. Was kind of odd that the two would meet up since Garro never really interacted with any other high profile marines besides the other Knight Errants.

You're right if Sigismund and Garro did team up to find Keeler I would think it would be cool it's just from what I read in your spoiler there little meeting made me go "Eh ok that happened".

Also your mention of Garro coming across as deep and having inner conflicts makes me believe this screams an audiobook. I know I keep harping on that but I am biased towards that medium for the Garro stories. I have all the others and just think it's wrong that this one was released in a different format. lol
