Yeah I figured that you are a Sigismund fan and I understand that it's all good. Was kind of odd that the two would meet up since Garro never really interacted with any other high profile marines besides the other Knight Errants.

You're right if Sigismund and Garro did team up to find Keeler I would think it would be cool it's just from what I read in your spoiler there little meeting made me go "Eh ok that happened".

Also your mention of Garro coming across as deep and having inner conflicts makes me believe this screams an audiobook. I know I keep harping on that but I am biased towards that medium for the Garro stories. I have all the others and just think it's wrong that this one was released in a different format. lol

i too have come to like the voice acting in the garro stuff. i feel like i need to hear his voice.

not sure why some dislike audio books because the ones ive bought have been awesome (all the garro series, honour to the dead has awesome sound effects - i fell asleep listening to it via earphones one night and woke up thinking i was in the midst of a nightmare apocalypse.. freaked the hell outta me - butchers nails, some of the short ones.. ) they're all top draw.) but obviously garro has become somewhat of a celebrity and so releasing super-expensive rip off novellas probably makes more money in the long term than the audiobook alone..

Not sure about making money in the long term when the Novella is limited to only a couple thousand copies.

That's where the 'limited edition' eBook comes in.

Ain't no limit to the expensive eBook party, cuz the expensive eBook party don't stop... Or some such.

Also, five stars for that review, Blade.

Not sure about making money in the long term when the Novella is limited to only a couple thousand copies.

its limited edition for a time and then it gets released a couple of years down the line for a cheaper price (see Ravenlord - half the price, which is still double the price of the original HH novels, admittedly they were not as good quality, but its still what, at least 4quid more than the reformatted novels)

+ ebook.

crazy mark ups in price. absolutely crazy.

Just finished it myself. It was decent but not outstanding: James Swallow's writing isn't as good as the best of the series, but it's not bad either, and Garro isn't my favourite character but he's competently written and has some good internal conflicts. It was nice to see him questioning his role.

Probably the only downside for me was that the fight at the end was fairly weak, Garro relying a bit much on plot armour.

All in all, I liked it better than the other recent novellas, Honoured and Unburdened. It's not an essential purchase for everyone, but a worthwhile continuation of Garro's story for those interested in it.

1) Swallow writing and style are good - but most of his talent are now used in Deus Ex universe, specially for 'Mankind Divided'.

2) The story itself is not a bridge - but a glue for all the previous shorts and audio dramas.

3) If you haven't read/listen previous Garro stuff - the main 'idea' of both Garro's and Kell's internal conflict would be lost on you.

4) Plus it's cement direction for Sigismund, once and for all.
