Counts as Custodes

Hey all

Calth has dragged me back into the hobby and i've built up a small 30K army (2 x Calth boxset, Spartan plus some odds and sods), looking to do some Custodes as allies to scratch the building/conversion itch. Will be the Stormcast conversions that everyone has seen and done. I'm more interested in what rules people are using for them on the tabletop.

I'm looking to use rules that are from the books and the best i've come accross is the Lernaean Termintaors (Alpha Legion). I've put my reasons below but looking for other suggestions as well encase I've missed something:

higher WS and more Attacks than regular marines

Terminator armour so staying power, better than Articifer but sadly gets Slow & Purposeful

power axe isnt great as its Init 1 if i have read it correctly but the +2 STR could represent the power of the halberd

Volkite charger is a nice counts as bolter in my counts as custodes unit. shorter range than a bolter but assault 2 with Deflagrate isnt to shabby

Stubborn feels like something the custodes should have

For the Alpha unit option i'd probably give them Counter-attack...maybe??

For me it feels as close as you would get to them without actual rules or making your own up. I seen the Emps Children termies but they dont have a ranged weapon sadly, other ones dont seem to fit as well.

Be gentle as i'm just back into the game after a good few years off so might have missed some things and still getting to grips with the new rules

Power Axe is +1 is sadly. A Pride of the Legion list in Dreadclaws could be kind of okay. Not immense, but a Terminator Praetor with a Terminator Command Squad, joined by something like a Forgelord with Rad nades and Graviton Gun could be quite good.

 

If you run Orbital Assault, they get DS natively, but that has its issues.

 

Backed up by of the more archaic weapons like Graviton Guns, Heavy Conversion Predators, could be a pretty nice army. The best thing is you could paint the models how you like, as its Alpha Legion.
