From there the sky's the limit. Any preferred units you would like to include? What opponents will you be facing? Playstyle preference?

If you drop the RoW, you can do without the Praetor. You have him kitted out for melee but I assume he would join the Tyrant Siege terminators who will want to sit back and missile spam.

For your list, a typhoon is probably better. I love Preturabo's abilities and he's probably one of the best primarchs, but he doesn't fit your list very well. He fits much better in a list with a bunch of terminators and units that can deep strike. With no unit to escort him straight into combat, and only one unit that can deep strike he's kinda wasted.

On the other hand you can never go wrong with a typhoon, plus the typhoon is cheaper meaning you may be able to find enough pts for a 2nd predator, which I'd recommend. Just keep the main gun, throw on heavy bolters, and give the plasma pred power of the machine spirit so you can fire at different targets. That way with a 2 predator squadron you'll keep your plasma pred alive longer.

Looks good. I'm not a huge fan of large tac squads out in the open as there is so much that can just ruin their day and me personally, would stick with the 10 man in rhino for objective grabbing.

Not a huge fan of the predator and again, if it was me, would put in something else

To be fair though, it's a nice all round list that I think ticks a lot of boxes although mass armour 14/flare shields would pose a bit of a problem

Think it will be fun though, run it and see

Since I'm running lots of vics should I go back to the 3 tacs in rhinos and get the hammer of Olympia ROW? Like I said 30k is new to me so what are some stand out units for iron warriors and how are yoy suppose to play them? I come from flesh tearers and death korps krieg in 40k.

Like was said before, if you don't need the 4th heavy slot the r.o.w is a bit of a waste.

I too am new to iron warriors and curently play 30k world eaters so I am by no means an expert on them. Their stand out unuts however are the tyrants (which you have a nice squad of) and perterabo who is a pretty decent primarch. They are one of not a handful of legions that have the ability to deep strike terminators whith him in the army and so my list focuses on that along with being able to roll for reserves turn 1 (there's some nice combo stacking here with command rhinos and coms relays...).

There is also Golg who when taken as a warlord can take terminators with troops.

A lot of people will run iron warriors as a gun line army with a lot of ranged threat and stubborn marines. They where siege masters getting stuck into the worst places for extended periods of time....think medusas and typhons, mortars etc... For that theme (which you have)

I think just need to play some games and try some things out. Your list is a solid start if maybe a little vanilla and generic (bar the siege tyrants) but I think think will give you some idea of what is capable of what in 30k.

Just remember in a.o.d, only troops can score!

And have fun!

The new book will be dropping next month and we will have another RoW (Two per Legion plus new generic ones). The Tyrants and the Medusa are a good base to start with.

Supposedly the new IVth RoW is rumored to involve charging into melee through your own bombardments. Should be pretty interesting if you want to wait for that.

It's hard to tell what the new rights will be. Sicaran and typhon will be a good start and as for thudd guns they are good, too good for the points and a pretty bent unit. I hate people bringing them and the scorpious as they are too cheap for what they do. Thudd guns are in the new book so expect a points increase.

The typhon has you covered when it comes to Infantry killing pie plates but if you want more Temps, go for Medusa as they can even destroy flair shielded Spartans due to ordinance and barrage at str10... juicy

What I am doing and a suggestion to yourself is to just build and paint a model at a time. You have your 2 tanks to crack on with and once they are done you can get some troops and do them. Before you know it February is here and you can then decide to carry on the route you are or go a totally different one all together. At least you have the options without having heavily invested in units you potentially might not use.

  • 3 weeks later...
So I'm playing against salamanders this weekend at 2500. I'm thinking bout dropping the apothecaries, seige tyrants down to 6 total and replacing troops with 3 squads in rhinos. Would that be better than big blobs? Does a mech list fit with the Iron Warriors? It just seems like they background wise are the in the trenches WW1 style guys.
