Ladies and gentlemen let me Re introduce myself (I see what you did there) my name is Kurama or as some of you may remember back in 2013 when I joined this site the great and wonderful Jaspcat. Now those that know me will be well aware I'm a speed painter and I never stick to a project and motivation kills me.

Now since it's a new year and I'm currently in a new town and a new job I thought it was time to restart the hobby.
Now I have absolutely nothing in my new unit, to fill you in all my gear is 300 km away with my fiancé until she moves up here. Long story short I'm starting from scratch and here is my new space for my future hobby shenanigans;

Now as you can see I've got literally nothing so I thought how does one go about setting up a hobby space....

This brings me to my project; Now I've never been one for testing paint schemes pre project or using mathammer or anything like that so I decided to stop for once and plan out a project, now to do this I've broken my project down into 4 categories.


•Conception- ideally this is planning; so what project do I want to run with? In the past I've done nearly every Legion in the Horus Heresy series in some form or another, so I got thinking what makes this hobby appealing?

Well for me its the setting,the background and the narrative, nowhere else will you find a universe with so much potential and also cannon background material worth it's salt. Now I'm not one to be sociable in fact I'm a bit of an introvert at times but as some people may or may not know I recently had my brother visit before he shipped off with the navy for his first overseas deployment/tour. Now he is an avid Space wolves fan and has been since he was 6 and he would steal my white dwarves and my models at the time, but Kurama your just rambling at this point!

Well no I'm actually not I'm trying to give an insight to another hobbyists point of view (fair enough then). Now in saying that I've been asked to build some models for my brother whilst he's away, he has limited space and can't do much in the way of hobby so he's already been ordering Forgeworld items for his Heresy Space Wolves army, I agreed to build them for him and thus had an idea what if our brotherly rivalry grew into that of a joint campaign?

With that thought I asked him if he was interested long story short he agreed on one condition I was to do a force of thousand sons and we were to build/re create the sacking of Prospero and the battle of the fang.

•Planning- so then came the hard part planning out how to achieve such a feat whilst were separated over the next year? Well I spoke to him in length and we came to this conclusion he will order and send me his models and in return he will buy a warlord titan for our game, now I already have one at my old address that I got prior to Christmas this makes for an apocalypse sized game so we need a decent sized board.

Now before the board I needed an army... well we both decided to start small 3500 points our goal for his return. That's without titans. So I started thinking him I need a themed list and something to run as the backbone of my force.

so I decided on a terminator based Assault force;
1x Terminator Praetor
1x Terminator Librarian

4x 10 man terminator squads
2x Spartan Assault Tanks
1x Mastodon Siege Vehicle.

This gives me a core force to focus around and still allowing the edition of primarchs and other items for both campaigns.

•Testing- well this isn't easy as I need to figure out a paint scheme, im personally going to trial a metallic red rust scheme taking away from the traditional creme beige and maroon (sp?) Scheme but this will still be up for a test mini.

•Continuation- now the hardest part of any project is continuing with it, the like of Augustus b'rass or insane Psycopath do not have this issue whereas I tend to loose focus and motivation. Now I'm hoping that having a set goal and a time limit will allow for me to stay on track.



So after that massive wall of text (I'm sorry if it bored you) I have more planning to do and ordering to follow up with.

Any suggestions on improving on my workspace would be much appreciated and im hoping that as I add to my work area it will help serve as an idea of what other people can achieve with limited space.

Now I know I haven't given much but I've started work on my praetor he's still very much WIP and the armour needs alot of tidying up etc and alot of GS will be needed but here he is

so the body is carab culln the arms are a astelion moloc (mind my spelling) now he will get a force staff and some more details like a suitable grimoire (sp) but I'm happy with the idea behind him.

I'm pretty happy with how he's turned out, I'm thinking I'll re purpose my thousand sons praetor to a simple librarian so I can build a proper praetor for my thousand sons.

I don't know man...is he for 40k? The head just doesn't seem right.

I'm not really a big fan of the wolfy space wolves helmet but I think it works, you could argue that the helm is a mkiv articifer helm. The praetor could probably do with a shoulder pad on his bare arm.

Can't wait to see some paint :D (I am aware I just rhymed, just in a funny sort of mood).

@rangaman- keep in mind he's for my brother and there are certain aspects of his army I've been given that I must adhere too. He will be for use as both 30k and 40k.

 

@soric- I know most people hate the wolf helm but I quite like it, I'll try a Shoulder pad on the bare arm but I like how it will tie in with the old wolfen models my brother uses.

 

@atia- gee thanks Atia, thought I'd get a decent chunk of stuff built before I try painting to keep me somewhat motivated

Wolf looks great apart from the broom on his helmet looks a bit too Ultramarine/Roman, but difficult to vikingise a wolf helm other than with the hollywoodesq horns and gw already nabbed them for chaos plus always I think why would you do that with horns must screw your balance up something awful.

To be honest I don't usually like the whole "wolf helm cuz we're wolves" gimmick, BUT I think with the crest and the pose of the Khârn model it really works!
