Glueing models to finished bases

Recommended Posts

This seems like an odd question but I can't wrap my head around the concept.

I've seen many WIP articles online that show that the bases have been completed before the model is attached to said base. I can't seem to figure out how the model is attached to a finished base, what with all the sand and mock and other crap that we use to base our minis. Is it so simple that people just glue models on top of all of that basing material and texture? What am I missing here? It seems like the bond between the resin/plastic of the model and basing material (often painted) would be iffy at best.

I sure hope this is something simple that I just haven't figured out, because texturing the base without the model attached would be so much easier.

Thanks,

Depends really on the model and the base, I usually just superglue them to the base, i find that the thick super works fine. If you use a sandy base, it just settles in to all the sand. For more tricker bases, i usually stick a pin through a foot. You should be able to see some via the link in my signature smile.png

I use superglue and actually glue unpainted models on unpainted bases first, then break them apart, paint them separately, and glue everything back together at the end of the day. (Occasionally that requires most minor touch-ups.) That way I get to build the model on its base, which I find helpful, and have the benefit of getting to paint both separately.

Ive been making the base and the model separately, and then painting.  I drill the hole in their foot and test on the base where I want them to stand. then add the pin with superglue to the foot, its long enough to go through the base(GW Base) then drill through the base...I glue it in place on the bottom then cut off the extra. Just one way of doing it I suppose
