Hexagon Sun
I'm putting together some Ravenwing and I've got enough 60mm bases spare for my three attack bikes, but has anyone tried putting them on an 80mm round? I noticed that GW do them now and thought it may look a bit better to avoid the overhang you get with 60mm. I also saw that a couple of people do the larger 'pill' bases so that could be an option. Cheers Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/317912-attack-bike-basing-on-80mm-round/ Share on other sites
JeffTibbetts
I don't think I've ever seen anyone else do this, but I did a regular bike base and then used a 25mm under the sidecar tire. It's much tighter, but of course it's unconventional. I think the lager 80mm one might look too big, myself. An oval base would work better, most likely. Cheers Also been considering the appropriate base size for an attack bike; I never felt that the 60mm's really worked (as you say, overhang) but feel like 80mm might be too big. Hard to say without visual comparisons. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/317912-attack-bike-basing-on-80mm-round/#findComment-4273284 Share on other sites
Hexagon Sun
Cheers for the input Jeff and Halandaar, I was going dig out a compass and draw an 80mm circle on paper to see how it fits out of interest. I'll post up a photo when I've had a chance to do it. I thought an oval would probably have too much excess space at either end. None of the smaller ovals are quite wide enough for the bikes footprint so I was unsure about which size to try. I'll see if I've got any lying around and post up some pictures. Agamemnon-2.0
I struggled with mine for quite a while, eventually I cut out a triangle shape out of 3mm plastic, with heavily rounded corners, so i could get it to fit the footprint of the thing and give it the same height as my based bikes Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/317912-attack-bike-basing-on-80mm-round/#findComment-4274245 Share on other sites
Hexagon Sun
I dug out a compass and a spare beer mat then cut it to 80mm round and it looks like we have a winner. It's pretty much bang on with no overhang, so the only thing that's a potential downside is paying £3 per 80mm base. Excuse the terrible photos! http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/o551/hexagonsun1/Random/attack_bike_base_test_zpsft5ge6m8.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/317912-attack-bike-basing-on-80mm-round/#findComment-4274498 Share on other sites
Raztalin
Why buy a base...? You've just made one right there :) Cut another one out, glue together and your sorted! Just my 2 cents...your right, perfect size! Happy to be wrong on this! 80mm does indeed look the right size, nice job.
