AfroCampbell
The rules for Seige Mantlets IMO would be an excellent fix for the slightly overpriced unit found in the Horus heresy books... Thoughts?? Rules state rerolls for armour saves instead of 6++/5++ save....? I think it might better improve the unit for its role.... Hesh Kadesh
The units role is Breaching hulls of Void Ships. They don't take the bonus rending of such environments on other weapons, and they have protection against Blast and Template weapons, while AP3 or lower is rare in blast or template format. They have defensive grenades, and access to short ranged weapons in corridors which either gain Rending, or can burn through locked doors with ease. They aren't designed for going up against Typhons or especially slugging it out in a field, but are rather tougher than tacticals when they aren't taking Rending Damage (which is still up against a 6++ in that event). While i would have been happy with Siege Mantlets oroginally (and was rather incredulpus ot wasn't), breacher shields being breacher shields like they are currebtly are fine. I don't find them particularly overcosted, althoigh as ever, a drop it cost would be lovely. Noserenda
I love breacher shields as is, the cost of the unit is too high but shields aint the reason Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/317934-seige-mantlets-boarding-shields/#findComment-4270800 Share on other sites
Raktra
They're not that much above what they "should" be really, they do their job of being an objective grabbing brick bloody well. The siege mantlet rules would be nice, but it could end up being cartoonish on Iron Hands or Fists. EDIT: If I had control over their rules, it'd just be a flat 5++ on the shields instead of it changing between phases. But never mind that. Yeah but shouldn't the IWs and fists be like that? ;) I mean they'd still die en masse to Scorpii or Thanatars, but anything short of that they'd laugh off. It'd mean you need something dedicated to take them out as bolters won't get through (I mean they will, but you'll be lucky to get more than 2 kills after a 3+ reroll). The main threat to the Breachers as they currently stand is AP2, especially blasts, this would still stand and be even a bigger threat with the above rule change as you wouldnt have an invulnerable to help. I also think your interpretation of their 'role' may differ to other peoples. As Hesh has pointed out, they are actually very well suited to their role (as Breachers in void warfare/Zone Mortalis) and when used in those scenarios they are actually a very strong unit.
