Using 30k Sisters as Survivors Imperialis Militia

Hey all.

Just wanted to know if anyone's done the above, and what advice or tips they might have on fitting in a variety of models. I was going through my closet for a clearout and came across a ton of Sisters I'd gotten in an auction from almost a decade ago (back when the GW that used to be local did these annual in-store auctions).

My thought was to use them with Survivors of the Dark Age from the IA list in Book 5, and then maybe have some allied Ultramarines - maybe with some Fleur-de-Lys worked into the Consul's shoulder pad as a neat little call-forward to Red Templars or something.

I think I've got three penitent engines, so I might see about using those as Ogryns or as Sentinels - depends what my play group is cool with, but given that the Ogryns entry specifically suggests counts-as an option, we'll likely be able to work something out. Priests (or Repentia Superiors) as discipline masters, Sisters Hospitaller as medical orderlies, imagifers as vexilia... I'll have to fudge around to sort out fire support teams, or just leave them out.

Anyhow, I'd appreciate any thoughts. Thanks!

Would you take another Provenance? With cyber-augmetics, you get their 6++ shield of faith rule. With abhuman helots, you can troll space marines with T4. Either way, you're looking at a 110 point tax on your army.

Your basic unit of 10 sisters with power armour and bolters comes out to 95 points. Then, since your only cheap transport option is an Arvus lighter and each additional body is only 5 points, may as well max out the unit.

So you're looking at 190 points for 20 power armoured T4 (or T3/6++) models with BS4 bolters, two meltaguns, a simulacrum imperialis (vexilla), and the Sister Superior has a power axe, hand flamer and melta bombs. Pretty sweet. Plus you can add a medic for FNP on the whole thing for another 13.333 points. Only problem is they have a very short effective range, and have no deployment or transport options except gorgons. I suppose you could save 53 points by taking just 12 with no medic, and put those towards Arvus Lighters?

The other issue is there is nothing else in the list with effective power armor except auxilia techpriests, so you're just stuck with basic sisters. No Celestians or Seraphim, etc.

Survivors of the dark age unlocks rhinos and LR proteus as DTs for grenadier squads and command squads so you can roll ten-sister squads around in those. No special weapons but super cheap

Missed that, that's nice. Makes the way the specialists are set up all the weirder (why not just two guys can upgrade and can buy an additional 10?). Maybe it's intentional so as you don't swamp the board with ~150-point scoring MEQ squads with transport and two specials?

Yeah I imagine that is why, it would be no good for the militia to be rockin basic units better than the legions!
