gmaleron
Hey guys, I have yet to start collecting a Horus Heresy Legion, however after the release of the new Corax and Dark Fury Assault Sqaud models I am very tempted in doing an army of Raven Guard. However when taking the Raven Guard Rite of War I am having trouble finding ways how the best way to implement a squad or two of these guys with Corax into the army, primarily getting them into combat. Just curious if anyone has any experience with this matter and if there is a reliable way for them to get there? So far the best options I have come across are taking a Kharybdis Assault Claw or a Stormwing so they dont get shot to pieces going across the table. thanks for the replies! Hesh Kadesh
Being Jump infantry they cannot go in transports. Including Darkwings, despite the fluff. Go figure. In essence, it isn't hard to include them. They are plug and play. Corax gives them a 4+ Cover Save, which you can use until turn 2. Don't play on billiard tables either. The 7th edition game recommends lots of terrain to block los and provide cover. One downside of being RG is that your basic infantry get infiltrate which means that you cannot add a Vigilator to advance the unit 12" forward with Scout. Amayasu
Personally I start them on the board and move them. The temptation to Deepstrike them is there because of the DF's cover save... but it's turn 3 at best before they can do what they're designed to do; shred marines at S5. I thought it was FAQ-ed somewhere, where it said that Jump Infantry doesn't get the fleet+infiltrate that 'infantry' does with RG. Galron
Could always mount them in a Caestus. You end up with the same turn 3 assault issue though. Hesh Kadesh
It is unclear, but that isn't what i meant. Normally, Vigilator gives a unit Scout and can take Power Armour (or rather not take Recon Armour), so they can join units. Vigilators cannot take Jump Packs, and because they gain infiltrate straight off the bat, they cannot join dark furies. As a quick aside, has anyone seen the Lord of Tears? Do those claws remind anyone of anything? Caillum
Vigilators CAN take jump packs, so no problem with Scouting them forward. Definitely my Consul of choice for this build. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/318111-corax-and-dark-fury-squads-best-way-to-get-into-combat/#findComment-4274913 Share on other sites
Hesh Kadesh
They can? Oh, excellent, could have sworn otherwise. Then that is another way of getting the unit into CC. It is a shame that the Void Shield Harness isn't an option now. depthcharge12
Well, if you've got rhinos for your tactical squads, you can always use it as a mobile LoS blocker for the squad to run behind. And considering they don't have ranged weaponry, you will just run them anyway for the first turn and the rhino can flat out to keep pace :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/318111-corax-and-dark-fury-squads-best-way-to-get-into-combat/#findComment-4275020 Share on other sites
Nusquam
It really depends on your list. If you're infiltrating Mor Deythan and other things in rhinos then starting them on the board to hop behind them can work. I tend to deepstrike them separately. Turn two assaults only happen if both sides sprint at each other. And if you deploy first the only thing your opponent is going to deploy that can be charged turn two is something like Vulkan and friends in a Spartan. Not something you want to fight in CC. So I usually deepstrike them to ensure turn 3 assault against targets of my choosing rather than risk getting shot off traversing the board or getting caught by something nastier. Corax always goes solo to avoid enemy fire focusing on one unit adn to take advantage of his sneaky rules. Then Corax spends the next few turns killing and sling-shotting across the backfield while the Furies are the tip of the spear.
