Jarl of Wulfen
Got my first sicaran/first FW model recently. For those that have built one, did you pre-assembled the central part, then glue on the tracks, or did you glue the center pieces right to the tracks and force it to work. Before I start gluing pieces together, I'd like to hear comments from those that have built a sicaran before. Xenith
I havent built one yet (I got one for christmas), but I would probably start by attaching the hull to one track side first. Always start by dry fitting, first, as you may need to bend stuff back into shape if it's warped. Ovidius Incertus
I built the central hull first to keep the track sections separate for painting. Much dry fitting was involved before I would glue my hull sections and then dry fit the track sections on to ensure alignment. Then I did gap filling as necessary before separating everything for painting. I also pinned a few of the hull sections together with holes drilled from the bottom. I didn't think the joints were particularly strong and I also didn't have any clamps at the time. Grotsmasha
ForgeWorldVisualFeed has a video assembling a Spartan, and Duncun assembles the centre hull, and then attaches the tracks afterward. I'd assume this method makes sure the tank is "square" before attaching the tracks, preventing it sitting unevenly on the Table-Top. Jarl of Wulfen
Thanks fellas. Another question, using hot water to realign pieces, are we talking boiling water, or just turn the hot tap on full bore? The_Chaplain
Thanks fellas. Another question, using hot water to realign pieces, are we talking boiling water, or just turn the hot tap on full bore? Honestly, use a hairdryer in my opinion. Gets it as hot as it needs to be, without the potential of scalding hot water hiding inside a crevice in the assembly and burning your fingers. Jarl of Wulfen
There is no hair dryer in my apartment. Not about to buy one either, lol. The pieces I need to realign are the main gun barrels Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/318142-sicaran-assembly-question/#findComment-4275944 Share on other sites
Kilofix
Doesn't need to be boiling, just hot. Try it, and if it doesn't seem like it will bend without breaking, then go hotter. Also, I just use a hair flat iron. The flat iron makes pieces, well, flat. Edit - to be more specific, I've reshaped pieces with water that I could still put my hands under. Grotsmasha
I actually recommend boiling water and putting into flat container and soaking the part for a good 30-60 seconds. The reason I say this is using running hot water will do it, but it takes longer and if your impatient like I am, you might snap your Spartan Assault Ramp in half....like I did. Also, a tap-hot won't do it for thke floor and wall panels. Jarl of Wulfen
Thanks guys, I will make the attempt over the weekend. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/318142-sicaran-assembly-question/#findComment-4275978 Share on other sites
Kaldoth
This might be a bit late, but I've built and painted a Sicaran before. I definitely recommend gluing the hull together and then the tracks. The reason being is fitting and shimming. If you don't want huge gaps, IMO, its easier to put the hull together, slap the two side pieces on, and then filling with GS/plasticard than it is to try and jam pieces of the hull in between the two side pieces and fill/shim from there. If you're interested, here's a kit review I did last year and the finished product (you'll have to scroll a bit for the completed tank): Kit review Completed Sicaran Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/318142-sicaran-assembly-question/#findComment-4276856 Share on other sites
