Emperor's Furor
Aside from Loken do you think their are loyalist Sons of Horus out there? Perhaps escaping on a ship during the bombardment or not making it to Istvaan? Legionary Pallas
It's a big galaxy out there, if ya wanna play loyalist SoH, play loyalist SoH. I doubt anyone would but if someone refuses to play you, then you wouldn't want to play against them anyway. Lord Tharand
If there are traitor Space Wolves then there are definitely some loyalist SoH out there in the greater galaxy. Galron
The primarchs tried to gather all of their troops for Istvaan but there were still detachments taking part in multi-legion engagements or even smaller engagements who might not have gotten word to show up or were unable to show up. Some legions had potentially so many detachments it was next to impossible to get word or get a ship to pick them up. So yes it is very possible there are SoH companies and possibly battalions out there who like the 77th IW, might not even know a war is going on. Calas Typhon
Undoubtedly there would be parts of the Legion still alive outside of the Isstvan atrocity that did not turn and stayed Loyal, however they would be pursued and not forgotten by Horus. The other traitorous legions I could see *might* let it fly with exception to one or two, but the XVI would definitely push to eliminate those who did not side with the Warmaster. Inside Isstvan III? I very much doubt it, the reason being, the Sons of Horus led a speartip to thrust through the traitor forces to meet up with the Emperor's Children at the Palace to make their final stand, to buy time for the Imperium to hear, and so in all, were completely obliterated. There are exceptions to this though: + The Death Guard and World Eaters ran guerrilla warfare and strikes on traitor forces, when they were split off from the bulk of their Loyalist brothers such as Crysos Morturg and white eyes the skull taking World Eater. The Sons of Horus could easily have this apply to them as well, however the reason they were moving to the Palace was to bunker down, so the majority would be there. + It is referenced that Ancient Rylanor the III Legion dreadnought moved off to an underground complex sometime during the battles for whatever reason, so there could be Loyalist forces still operating there. The main thing is, as stated in the above point, the whole force would move to bunker down in the Palace to defend for as long as they can, so that the Imperium could hear of the turning of Horus and the 4 Legions. + As far as I am aware, there were ships that fled with the Life Eater bombing of Isstvan like the Eisenstein. A prime example would be the ship that Macer Varren took, which shows up in one of the Garro books. They could have escaped from there. Castellan Cato
You could have a battle fleet that was lost in the warp for a few years too. If they were lost before Davin and popped out after Istvaan Papa Wolf would have some 'Xplaining to do. norngahl
As any Legion did, even the Sons of Horus left a few men on the planets they conquered here and there. Best examples are the HH Books where Blood Angels are left behind to guard Molech. The Warmaster wouldn't be a fool and guard important worlds as well. But what if somehow some of these guardians remained loyal? Imagine fielding one of those garnisons. Propably boots over the interesting stuff.. any unit that can fit in a rhino. No Praetor or Terminator. No Battle Tanks or specialists like Destroyer Squads. Veterans, Tacticals, assault and support squads, heavy support squads.. And some flying support to be mobile on the planet. For example storm eagles and lightnings as an escorte. But play whatever you want. Still can be late pre heresy before the massacres. Plasmablasts
Other canon examples of loyalist Luna Wolves include Iacton Qruze and Severian (spelling? The one who was in the Crusader Host on Terra). So there are precedents for surviving on the surface of Isstvan (Loken), escaping the system (Qruze) and not being there at all (Severian??).
