Chargers or Calivers?

Ok, so, I have the FW store open in the other tab, I'm about to place an order for creating my first Volkite squad, which I'm understandably enthused about as a long-time fan of the red planet's incendiary technology. Both my time and funding for projects are a somewhat more limited than I'd like at the moment, though, and I need to choose which weapon to arm this first squad with, calivers or chargers. I aim to have both in my army eventually, but it's one or the other for now, so I thought I'd consult the volkite fanatics here for advice regarding the decision.

My primary concern right now is aesthetics, and while I've seen a decent number of astartes in various armour marks wielding calivers, I don't recall seeing chargers on power armour models outside that one FW display. If you have some, I'd like to see them!

As a secondary concern, I'd like them to be useful when I get into the gaming side of 30k. I know calivers are good weapons with that huge range and high strength, but what about chargers? They still seem like they hit pretty hard, and the mobility seems useful. Which do you use, MDRC, and what do you recommend?

Here's what I've come across:

•Charger squads in a Dreadclaw are awesome for hopping out, thinning out a scoring squad, and then assaulting in to finish them off. Obviously it's not a heavy weight assault unit, but can still put a dent in where it's needed. Better than bolters, and can still assault. Plus, scoring.

•Calivers...I chose them because they're awesome and can score. However, they lose out against a Culverin squad, as those bad boys can lay down the hate on anyone, especially as a 10 man squad, which is recommended . I honestly like the calivers since you can park them on a home objective comfortably for the whole game for scoring and long range shooting. Still better than bolters, but don't expect them to wipe units like the Culverins.

Edit: I can spellz real goodly.

Having a tiny obsession for choom I have no fewer than 35 chargers and one demi culverin in my force. Here are 5 charger armed for your perusal

The problem with chargers is the short range, however if you're playing NL not so much of an issue t1/t2.

If you are looking at the charger, use that squad to go for the squishy troops or be charge bait. 20 str 5 shots can be fun.

The caliver can be semi mobile, though you would be snap shotting if you chose to move and shoot, but increased range, and extra point of strength makes your choice of target greater. Rhino popping, anything av12 for glancetacular action, (averages suggests you get enough 6's for most things on 20 shots)

Then culverin. Combine with either a Libby with the malediction divination power (the anthrawes/depthcharge manoeuvre) or a Mos for bs boost and you can saturate anything with 40 shots at str 6 per turn.

And don't forget deflagarate on squishy targets

Chargers can also be used by vet squads.

True but you usually have better options since its a 1in5 selection + everyone can take a Serpenta.

Can occasionally be hilarious with Sniper but you have better choices.

Combi-volkites are also a thing; something you could load up onto Seekers or Mor Deythan if you were so inclined though, again, there are better choices.
