THE PALE HORSEMAN

Skorpa the Pale Horseman. Fleshmaker of the Rout.

During the great crusade, Skorpa along with a watch pack, were sent by the Wolf King on orders from the Sigillite, to accompany the Imperial Heralds Legion of the 7th company. Sometime after the Edict of Nikaea, Skorpa was instructed by the Wolf King to investigate and learn more about his brother Aurelian's chaplain program. Under the counsel of a chaplain named Xaphen, the Fleshmaker undertook his investigation, unfortunately the two astartes had very different ideologies and never got along.

Xaphen thinking Skorpa but a pagan, was arrogant towards the son of Russ and belittled the Fleshmaker throughout his tutelage. “He is but a savage. A pagan dog who will not understand our devotion or our beliefs.” - Xaphen to his Primarch Aurelian of the XVII Legion. Insulting the Fenrisian was a daily routine for Xaphen. But Skorpa held back the fury that raged inside him and waited for his moment.

Eventually Skorpa fulfilled his duties and was deemed reeducated in the eyes of Xaphen. Skorpa was then urged to have a death mask forged as a rite of passage from pagan to chaplain. Going as far as to insult the wolf and ordering him to a bath and to groom himself to look proper in the eyes of the mighty Imperium.

In his defiance, Skorpa got his revenge on Xaphen by killing his favored animal, a terran like horse breed of Colchis. Using the head as his personal death mask, while leaving the bloodied carcass on Xaphen's prayer altar and words written on the walls simply saying, the pagan was here!

On route back to Fenris, Skorpa and his watch pack sent their reports back to both the Leman of the Russ and Malcador the Sigillite. In his report and to the amusement of the Wolf King, Skorpa said that they did not smell right and that the frostborn should remain in the ways of Fenris. Oathsworn to the Allfather and to the Wolf King.

Uthred The Godless
Pack Master sent to assist and watch over the Imperial Heralds on orders by the Sigillite. Uthred has a distrust towards the pious, which the XVII Legion embodied. Earning him a reputation from the Imperial Heralds and the moniker of "The Godless." Uthred making a point to enforce the Imperial Truth, even amongst the brother legions.

They dabble in silent prayers and pay homage to the Allfather. "The God Emperor" they whisper in secret. It almost makes me laugh. He is but the Allfather to the frostborn and the only man to best the Wolf King in a real fight between two warriors. But a God King? should I hear the words spoken openly, my blade will silence them forever, for I am the sanctioned son of Russ.

DIGNITY OF A WOLF

gallery_24878_5750_91315.jpg

The skálds on Fenris tell a story about a starving wolf pack back on ancient terra. One of the whelps rejects the rules of the pack, rationalizing his decision by saying that filling one’s belly is more important than following a code. The young wolf leaves the others and begs for food from men. The men feed him. A year passes, the wolf has lived among the men and hunts with them. One day the men shoot an old wolf, and the wolf who runs with men realizes that the men have wounded the alpha of his former pack. As the old wolf dies, he says to the young wolf:

‘I have lived my life like a worthy wolf, I have hunted a lot and shared many prey with my brothers, so now I die happy. But you will live your life in shame and alone, in a world to which you do not belong, for you have rejected the dignity of a free wolf to have a full stomach. You have become unworthy. Wherever you go, you will be treated with contempt; you belong neither to the world of wolves nor to that of men... This will teach you that hunger comes and goes, but dignity, once lost, never returns.’
