ElectricPaladin
Maybe it's my ADHD acting up, but it really irritates me that the cannon component of a Thunderfire Cannon team doesn't have a base. Grr. Can anyone give me any advice on which base size suits the model, so that I can order it, and have both the gunner and the cannon on a base as it should be. Thanks. Cpt_Reaper
Don't forget if the thunderfire cannon itself is destroyed the Techmarine can run around. Maybe cut out a part of the cannon's base? Maybe cut out a part of the cannon's base? Hm... that's actually a really good idea. I could use a pretty huge base, like a flyer's base, with a cut-out for the techmarine to sit in. Maybe use magnets so it's easy to move the whole thing around as a unit... Cpt_Reaper
You wouldn't even need it that big. A standard dreadnought-sized base should do the trick for both. Nah, I checked that out. The thunderfire cannon has significant overhang to the front and the back. While that's not a rules issue, I think it looks pretty awful. I'm going to go to the trouble of putting this thing on a base, I want it to look good. Halandaar
What about the 90x52 Oval base? I think that's your "monstrous cavalry" sized one. AndrewChristlieb
I've seen a few of them on 60mm bases and it looks pretty stupid since the feet hang off. I'd probably swing for a flyer base to make sure you have room for it. I don't know about actually having the Tech on the same base though, even detachable, since I often adjust their position relative to each other in order to benefit from the 2+ save on the tech. http://lh5.ggpht.com/_-HZLorI1B0w/TJU5iLEzBQI/AAAAAAAAL_g/V4ymy92bl2Y/s800/Thunderfire%20cannon%20on%20dreadnought%20base.jpg Just don't... Naminé
Aren't some of the new fantasy AoS bases the same size but oval? They look like they'd fit you pretty well Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/318387-base-for-a-thunderfire-cannon/#findComment-4281494 Share on other sites

I think that's your "monstrous cavalry" sized one. ^ The one I mentioned earlier I believe is the new standard base size for Bloodcrushers in both systems, for example. The below chart is really handy: (Source) http://i.imgur.com/f7mjOGn.png Having seen the Thunderfire on a 60mm, it might be that the 90x52 oval is too narrow and maybe the 105x75 (the one that comes with Ironstriders, Ghostkeels and Carnifexes) might be better. ElectricPaladin
I hate to tell you, but your tanks don't have bases either. BUT IT'S NOT A TANK!!! But seriously. It's got infantry rules; it ought to be on an infantry base. krakenfiend
I put my Attack bikes and my Thunderfire Cannon on 80mm bases. I tried the 60mm but the overhand was too great. I found that the Thunderfire sits on the 80mm very well...it is close to the edge but does not hang off the base. I'll post a pic of what it looks like when I get home from work. I bought 9, 80mm bases...enough for 6 attack bikes and 3 thunderfires... krakenfiend Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/318387-base-for-a-thunderfire-cannon/#findComment-4287529 Share on other sites

Yep, it needs the 105X70mm base. Here is one of my thunderfires on that base compared to a rapier on a 90X52: https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1604/24048336454_5c0c4c2283_z.jpg B&C doesnt like the file extension, otherwise id just post the pic.
