Wulf Vengis
With tax season upon us here in the States I'm making a serious consideration of picking up the Codex, some paint, simple green and brushes and dabbling with the IG I've got lying around. I'm thinking of dropping about $200 on some new units to bolster the ranks so to speak. I've wanted to find some way to incorporate them into my Wolves ever since I bought my first Leman Russ Exterminator (for the Wolves no less) back in 3rd edition. Then 5th showed up and we lost access to the lumbering beast but gained thunderwolves in it's place. Shortly thereafter Battle of the Fang was released and we were introduced to the Huskaerls; the PDF (for lack of a better term) of Fenris. This force has opened the door for painting guardsmen to put with my Wolves and the 7th edition ally system just concretes my motivation. As I've never been this serious on the idea before I've never put a great deal of thought into beyond a mix of Vostroyans, Valhallans and some Steel Legion/Death Korps (for that grim veteren look). I'm also currently looking at some third party models and keeping my eyes open for anything that sparks my fancy. I'm hoping to have a little fun with this project if i go through with it. WarriorFish
There's a lot you could do. Even raiding spare SW bits for pelts and the like for additions you could really tie the armies together :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/318439-the-fenrisian-huskaerl/#findComment-4282008 Share on other sites
Wulf Vengis
Incidentally are Vostroyans and Valhallans in plstic, resin or metal? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/318439-the-fenrisian-huskaerl/#findComment-4284455 Share on other sites
WarriorFish
Only in metal. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/318439-the-fenrisian-huskaerl/#findComment-4284462 Share on other sites
Wulf Vengis
Blast. It should be fine though as the two lines are what I imagine the Huskaerl to resemble. WarriorFish
I eagerly await my post being wrong one day (hopefully soon), but your options are a bit limited on the older metal stuff. Nothing an enterprising hobbyist can't get around though :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/318439-the-fenrisian-huskaerl/#findComment-4284481 Share on other sites
Wulf Vengis
I'm having trouble finding things that match the style of the Vostroyans, so I'll probably look to resellers for what I need. However I've had some luck with the more generic look of the Valhallans thanks to some other companies. Here's a list of what I'm looking at currently... Wulf Vengis
I've decided on Raging Heroes for a Commissar using their Ivanka Kurganova (Snow version) model. http://www.ragingheroes.com/products/ivanka-kurganova-snow-version-battalion-commander-kst?variant=10016011461 This means my final list (for now) will be Ivanka Kurganova, Standard Bearer Ulaf Peresvet and the Winter Troopers from Puppets War. I'm watching fleabay for secondhand Vostroyans. This puts me under $100 currently. Not bad and it allows me wiggle room for some other things.
