Happy thought of the day

My LGS will be running a 30k marines vs nids mega-battle in a few weeks. At the start of the game, only infantry is allowed on the table, and conditions have to be met to open up table sections for larger models to come on...so my happy thought of the day is massed volkite chargers vs hordes of gaunts.

Chargers? So you actually want to give them a slight chance?

Nah man, go for the overkill and use Culverins.

Well...sooo....thing is, the culverins are for the little bugs, the fists are for the big bugs, all packaged up together in a mob of infiltrating lernaean termies...that's right, infiltrating to start out closer...to nids. It'll be glorious, you'll see! msn-wink.gif What could go wrong with a plan to start out closer to nids?

(actually, big bugs, like vehicles, are banned in the early turns, so it'll be 2x15 infiltrating tactical squads with AHW and 10x infiltrating lernaeans for me...not sure what the other legions are bringing, but the hydra will reap the lion's share of early kills biggrin.png )

Anyway, a squad of ten culverins would be glorious...glorious overkill! I think the original set of shots would wipe a full squad of gaunts...leaving nothing left for the bonus hits to clean up! I think one of my mates will bring 10xML, ten blasts to clear out the living carpet of little bugs, and ten kraks to pound those nasty big bugs that come in squads. I think the host sees this coming and will allow army-wide without-number, at least for little bugs. If that's the case, leaving 2-3 of the bastards alive will delay their respawn...

Quantity is it's own quality, beware. Tyranids are pretty damn weak for sure this day and age, but 60+ attacks are 60+ attacks and they will drag you down. I'd put some distance between you and them to get the ranged shots BEFORE they hit your line, because at that point like it or not you're at a disadvantage.

Erm..."martial hubris," it would be completely unfluffy to play alpha legion any other way biggrin.png

Also, don't forget that those genestealers can move through cover and the hormagaunts have a better form of fleet. When you see three times as many genestealers coming within 8 inches of your vets, it's pretty darn freaky, especially considering they cost about the same amount of points...

May the Choom be with you !

That's when you wish you were 40k dark angels tactical marines in a lion's blade formation...go ahead, charge me!  But yeah, if I were playing nids, I'd go for the genestealer cult, just for bonus cool points!  Only thing I fear more in melee is raveners...

But imagine genestealers....facing ten volkite chargers borne by lernaean terminators buffed with preferred enemy through the presence of their primarch...Pink Mist 'R' Us!  Too bad I'm not fielding Alpharius...

Ah but Slipstreams, you forget; "Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment."

So simple, and yet so very true, feed your foe that false hope so that you may delight in crushing it before his very eyes... To quote a badass;

"There can be no true despair without hope. So, as I terrorize Gotham, I will feed its people hope to poison their souls. I will let them believe they can survive so that you can watch them clamoring over each other to stay in the sun. You can watch me torture an entire city and when you have truly understood the depth of your failure, we will fulfill Ra's al Ghul's destiny... We will destroy Gotham and then, when it is done and Gotham is ashes, then you have my permission to die."

Study this example, learn from it, and use that knowledge to utterly destroy your enemy. :devil:
