So....

After a long absence-(I think there's been two editions since I last played) I'm getting back into the hobby. It didn't take long to see quite a bit has changed since I last picked up a brush, AdMech becoming a playable faction not being the least of it. I've always liked the techpriests, and the fact that the models look amazing only cemented the deal to what my new army would be. In the past, I used to put together a list, and then paint up the mini's to match, however this time I'm taking a different track. I currently don't own any rulebooks, I'm just going to paint whatever I think looks good and I'll figure out how to make a list out of it later.

To that end, I've struggled on a paint scheme that I thought looked good. My initial inclination was to go with the traditional red, but the results were hit or miss. I decided to paint up a few test mini's, with different schemes until I ended up with this guy, who I call Prototype Epsilon 27 msn-wink.gif

So, paint scheme decided, I've run into another hitch: I don't like the way the official backpack looks on this guy. I'm planning on going with a grimy steampunk type look to these guys, but I'd like something a bit more simple than the one that comes with the kit. To me it looks like just throwing a bunch of junk together to make it look complicated and "techy". I may try just trimming off some of the extra cables and antennae for something less distracting, but I'd welcome any suggestions for alternative backpacks smile.png For now I'll just paint up the rest of the squad sans-backpack now that I have a color scheme that works.

How do you feel about these backpacks?

Backpacks that actually appear to serve a purpose! They've certainly got potential, think I'll buy a set next paycheck to try them out. That's certainly more in the direction I was hoping to go, thanks for the suggestion.

So, I'm actually an incredibly slow painter and updates are likely to be slow in coming.  This time around, however I cheated:  I'd already started on this Ironstrider in the red paint scheme I'd tried out first, so I really just had to redo it with the new colors.  The paint is thicker than it should be in some spots, but I'm not capable of anything more than tabletop  quality painting anyway so not a huge problem.
