Wulfen conversions

Lightning Wolf Lord

Recommended Posts

Hello all my battle brothers!

I am looking into a project in the recent news that the wulfen are returning along with the 13th company. At least rumours and images lead me to speculate this.

In the images i have seen the faces and must say that i really do not like them. never have been a fan of the old hairy face mutation of the canis helix.

I need to try and get my hands on some wolf heads or werewolf heads that will fit onto grey hunters wolf lords and the like.

Does anyone know where i can get hold of this or atleast a super easy tutorial on how to make them as i have never used green stuff and dont want to get to make stuff that looks terrible.

If anyone can help in providing details that would be fantastic.

Many thanks in advance.

Best advice I can give green stuff wise is practice.  Take a few spare helmetless heads, chop the hair off and try making your own. Hair is pretty simple to do and once you get it down you may be be able to make to look you want. Don't get locked into doing it all in one pass either, a few layers will give you better results than trying to get it perfect with one glob.

Then you can try adding a muzzle etc. The reason i recommend the hair first practice wise is that its simple like i said and you can use it to cover up any areas your not to thrilled about.

I have to either Re-upload my pictures or become a paying customer of imageshack to use my old pictures. but

Chaos marine box

Space wolf tactical box

Ungor BOX

with these three kits you can make about 20 wulfen units

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Cut the horns off of the ungor/gor heads and use those as the wulfen heads, you will have to sculpt hair on them.

ungor gor arms

mix and match chaos/wolf armor

Warpborn Skinwalker heads from PP are my goto for both Wolf helmets for TDA, as well as bare headed Wulfen. Combined with marauder or beastman arms they work pretty well IMO.

Terrible picture, but I was mocking up a bare headed TDA Wulfen.

And the armored helmet from that same PP kit.

We do not know how big the new Wulfen are though. I hope that few extra centimeters will not make much of a difference for an aggressive unit that would not spend much time in cover.

We know they're bulky!

Actual lupine heads and faces are a bit too literal for me, but it's nice for everyone there's options out there.

Completely understandable. I'm weird in that I actively looooaaathe the entire idea of Thunderwolves, but I'm somehow ok with werewolf guys. O.o To be fair when I built those guys it was to have one here and there in squads, I don't know if I'd be as excited about fielding entire squads of them.

Hahah. I got into 40k just before to the 5th edition codex just came out. the loathing for thunderwolves but acceptance of wulfen always the most puzzling thing to me!  I think part of the deal the Wulfen have been entrenched in the setting for 13 years.

I was always apprehensive of Wulfen, and even when I did Mark of the Wulfen in 5th edition I refused to get literal with it and just represented it with war paint. I loved Thunder wolves, though. looking at both the new and old Wulfen kits, I think Thunderwolves legacy is to be the better executed upon concept. the TWC sculptors got the best possible results out of the concept. The new Wulfen's feet bug the hell out of me, but it seems that is easily addressed! I can do some hulking berserkers with a simple feet swap that I'm game for!

Yeah, my 3e Wulfen were all guys that basically had "woad" markings on them and then the fantasy chaos marauder bare arms. Hmmm. I'm not super keen on those new figs, maybe I'll go back to something like that depending on the rules.

16 yr old paint job... eeeew.

thanks guys i checked out privateer press and they have the heads and i cant be more than happy as the bits are super cheap.

the idea of using beastman arms is cool and im going to look into it and see what it looks like.

thanks for all the ideas. Ill be sure to but up some pics when i get started / finished.

I was actually thinking about using a combination of parts of the warpborn skinwalkers and these:

I know the waprborn skinwalkers have been mentioned above...im not actually keen on the ''full wolf head' feel, but you can order just the helmeted heads and i think theyd work great.

I already have a warpborn alpha i was using as a bran redmaw conversion, who may become my wulfen squad leader.

On a related note, may well have to use that female deathwolf as the base of a fenrisian swayed callidus assassin conversion smile.png

Here's what I've found bit wise.

Puppetswar has Werewolf Strikers. Equivalent to our Wulfen. Just doesn't have the special weapons and all are rending Claws. Looks like good wolfman sculpts though. You can also buy the bits separately.

MaxMini sells a Werewolf Head, but the muzzle on them looks a little weird.

Kromlech has a Sons of Thor line where they have a nice set of Fur Cloak Backpacks and Fur Shoulder Pads that could be incorporated into Wulfen.

I could see mixing some Puppetswar Heads with Grey Hunters box to get what you need. Add in Kromlech cloaks to make them stand out. But that might be more expensive than Wulfen Box.

I'm not a fan of their feet. All I can think of is that song about applebottom jeans and boots with the fur. Probably just because it was hammered into me while I was a bouncer. Song played a couple times every night.

I actually like the idea of wulfen however I'm not exactly for those models. Do we know if their 40mm or are they regular sized? They seem a good bit bigger than regular space marines.

Anyone know of any good 40mm legs, I'm not a fan of the bare feet like wispy.

looking at the models i would say they are 40mm so terminator legs would be best.

im currently looking for legs that are more to the lycan side of mythology. The legs i have found are from infinity but the issue i have encounter is that noone anywhere does parts for them dry.png

i dont want to be buying kits for me not to use most of the bits. I have looked around and currently legs are the hardest to locate.

Hmm, I have magnetized my TDA arms, so I wonder if I can just use the wulfen arms on my regular TDA bodies, The heads are the standard TDA heads, but the arms are unique enough that I should be able to tell them apart easily enough. Sadly, I don't see me using TDA ever again once the wulfen are available, as they are superior in practically every way.

yes you could do this, and should be easy to tell them apart.

the only advantage the TDA have is the 2+ save.

the size of the models are more or less the same.
