I like 'em! If only there was a purpose to the combi-bolters....

You get to shoot accurately at Bikers/Jetbikers/MC's/Vehicles. Also depends on how you rule Jump Infantry etc. If Jump Infantry count as infantry for that purpose, then they gain Infiltrate for RG...

Yeah, no. FW need to rethink these. As in, give them prototype storm bolters. 18" Assault 2 Banestrike, maybe Gets Hot (which Preferred Enemy takes care of), Furiois Charge to offset Power Knives weakness, or ID against wounds allocated to Non MC or FMC on the charge (goodbye, Gal Vorbak).

Over on the heresy forum, someone said......

Having asked the question to AB himself some time ago now, his reply was we (players) did not have enough insight on the whole Legion's rules potential to fully appreciate why they have combi-bolters instead of combi-weapons.

So I assume there is more to come (maybe with the new AL RoW?).

And I still think it was his way of saying we dropped the ball lads

Just give them combi weapons job done

It's fine to give them the option, but the models have combibolters. How to keep CombiBolters worthwhile? Either remove PE, but that makes them useless, or give them Combi Weapon options, and that makes thr models garbage as everyone is paying £25 and forced into a weapon swap.

I like the idea of a unit of Seekers that don't have to take Combi Weapons to be worthwhile, and Prototype Stormbolter with Banestrike rounds is rather cool. If you want combiweapons, just take Seekers. If not? Take Headhunters. But for unit with Power Weapons built to take out enemy characters, they are incredibly underequipped. Its not like everyone who is anyone is running around in 2+ save anyway, and they don't have the damage output (S3, and AP3 on a 6 to wound with only 21 shots maximum provided that they are within 9" of an enemy) for 260pts or whatever they cost.

The Bolters are incredibly cool, and and the shoulder pads too. Maybe could get a use for the bodies to scatter around, but I don't really feel like spending £50 to give a Terminator unit access to Visually distinctive Banestrike Bolters (the only practical application of them across the entire course of the game; and even that hauls in at 290pts for 10 Banestrike Bolters with proper power weapons and now the ability to sweep, 2+ saves, and I still don't know why you wouldn't get 3 Combiplas for similar.

Banestrike in general is just underwhelming, given the points cost and the limited number of things that can take it, it should be ap2 on a six, not 3, and the decrease in range should allow the weapon to count as an assault weapon. If headhunters had some method for charging after using those bolters and banestrike was better, I'd call it a win.

Personally, I'd give them Relentless, Hit&run and maybe make banestrike ap2... tongue.png

Or, to keep them more in line with seekers and mor deythan and not make them too OP, give them a one use ability to charge out of deepstrike/infiltrate with relentless

That way they could live up to their fluff:

Show up, Shoot, charge, murder something, and then leg it

Currently they are blokes who get awkwardly close to you (9") and then throw rocks at you.

Combi-weapons would help. But basically it would mean admitting that their only value is combi-plasma one-hit wonders.

And I really miss the other bolter ammo too. Oh and melta bombs. or shroud bombs... What to they even need HoW for anyway?

Final peeve is that they can only take a heavy bolter as a special weapon. And no effort was made to provide a nice one.

For me legion specific unit define the legion you play. Yes, you can play your legion without them, they are not obligatory but nevertheless it would be good if they were actually usefull. I really like headhunters background, they are (in bcgr) essentially XXth doctrine made resin flesh but in gameplay they are expensive and underwhelming. There are many fluffy and cool units (again - in bckgr) that you never field because they are too expensive (recon snipers) or have weird rules (destroyers, also expensive).

Fusilade of fire: twin linked bolt weaponry in an alpha legion army gains the rending special rule.

Just a thought, maybe something in a row to make these bolters mean something. Maybe ignore cover instead to go with banestrike? Just brainstorming.

Well its a very good thing i primarily Collect HH for fluff and awesomeness rather than competitiveness.

A good way to be :). Sadly, I'm only a humble southpaw with the painting ability of potato, so am only really able to enjoy their same ability in game - which they lack in.

I honestly do think (and i am not just saying this b/c i love AL and want these to be cool) that these guys are realllyyyyy suffer from the BAC poses, i cant wait to throw some new legs arms and ammo pouches, pistols and daggers on em

Quoting Killerbee from the h30k forum, but it seems like either a future character or future RoW will give twin-linked weapons some kind of bonus that would make them worthwhile on the Headhunters. FOR NOW they're obviously silly, but it is nice to know that they may be viable in the future because they sure do look cool.

I feel like it could be a very unique awesome and easy fix.... fingers crossed

I am interested in combining these with the new MkV legs. The standard GW squat is not good enough for these.

I actually just ordered 6 mkv legs from eBay I'm going to try those and my trusty kromlech legs

I was looking at and considering the new MkVI kits tbh, lots of active poses and the Headhunters have two MkVI-ish heads it looks like.

I was considering that myself just now.  They look too high tech for Mk.V in my opinion.
