Hesh Kadesh
This isn't meant to bash Rotor Cannons. I love their idea, I just wish their implementation was better. That said, how is this for an equivalency? https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=QGE23Uykd1Y That is what S3, Salvo 3/4 looks like, and makes you seriusly consider how strong that Bolters are, and by dint, Heavy Bolters. Holy moly... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/318739-rotor-cannons/ Share on other sites
dethric
Probably not the best comparision seeing as how "Autoguns" and "Autopistols" are (at least in my head) equivalent to modern day rifles, which would mean that the rotor cannon is just a M16 firing at double speed. The linked video (murdering a light vehicle) looks more like the Avenger Gatling Cannon found on a Imperial Knight. Hesh Kadesh
Well, double speed doesn't really cut things equivalently; a Single shot missile launcher is Heavy 1, while a Heavy Bolter at heavy 3 isn't firing once every 2 seconds. And what you are saying is true, though. If an autogun is Strength 3 firing 7.62mm ammunition like an ak47, then an M134 minigun is also 7.62. While it has some differences in stopping power etc, something akin to the Punisher Cannon, Assault Cannon or Bolt Cannon is more like an GAU-8 30mm rotary gun. I believe there was a WD article years ago which gave stats for unarmoured vehicles which had them at AV9. There isn't much scope in 30k or 40k to have civi vehicles. Also, when you think that the next step uo from a S3 weapons is to go from a solid slug 7.62 round to a 20mm explosive shell, it kind of shows IMHO XD. depthcharge12
Meh, a Bolter is essentially a 40mm auto grenade launcher (mk19 I believe?) with a possible rocket propulsion system. RandomMarine
This is what a avenger sounds like in my head https://m.youtube.com/results?q=a10%20warthog%20gatling%20gun&sm=1 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/318739-rotor-cannons/#findComment-4290469 Share on other sites

But technically that thing shoots depleted uranium shells that eat T-90 tanks while the Avenger cannon is more like a 40mm Bofours cannon on steroids (explosive shells, not dense penetrators). Slips
Then we have the Vulcan Mega Bolter. Whose like, yeah, those rotor cannons? Whats the Logical Extreme? Oh! Wait! What if we fused them and bolters together?! *glances at warhound* Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/318739-rotor-cannons/#findComment-4290494 Share on other sites
Xenith
Also, when you think that the next step uo from a S3 weapons is to go from a solid slug 7.62 round to a 20mm explosive shell, it kind of shows IMHO XD. You're forgetting the AP5 instead of AP - also. Considering a frag grenade is S3 AP6, the +1 S and AP of the bolter represents the grenade having an armour piercing tip and detonating inside the target. Jim AMM realgenius
This kid is literally holding a Rotor Cannon. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LKq-uLl8jkE If the Imperium is ever under attack from The Pumpkin People, Rotor Cannons will come back into popularity. Until then, I'll stick with my Bolters. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/318739-rotor-cannons/#findComment-4290943 Share on other sites

Charlo
Rotor cannons are one of those things I'm just not sure what the design team were thinking. There is just no practical application for them. The only one I can half think of is Militia ones that are S4 in Zone Mortalis for rending. Yeah, if they just gave them Rending in Cold Void missions it would make them nearer worth their +5pt it costs for them, because Reaction Firing a Salvo 4 Rending Weapon up against a 3-4d3 instand hit Rending Shreds is roughly equal. They don't NEED s4, just then ability to Rend in the circumstances. Jim AMM realgenius
What about S3 or S2 with AP3? It will slice though armor, but the air soft bullets won't hurt big things. Charlo
What about S3 or S2 with AP3? It will slice though armor, but the air soft bullets won't hurt big things. How about building on that and they get an over charge mode? Gives them ap3 and gets hot but can't shoot next turn? Jim AMM realgenius
Ooh, like that idea. So many possibilities to prevent it from being something that just fills up space. Hesh Kadesh
It wasn't entirely what I foresaw, but I din't like making such massive changes to how it operates despite it being more effective. I'm biased obviously, but something as simple as allowing it to rend in ZM is really good. Charlo
Dark angels get +1 to wound with rotors when within 12 inches, while using the Iron Wing rite of War. Well, thats all I got! Still no point when they get heavy bolter aside shells though..
