First Wolves Painted

Recommended Posts

I have finished my first attempt at painting 40k models. I have completed a box of Grey Hunters. I do not like the powder blue or grey paint schemes that I see on most models so I have modified mine a little.

I used Vallejo Metallic Artic Blue as a base coat airbrushed over Vallejo black primer and dry brushed with Citadel Lead Belcher. I am please with the first attempt. I have a Fenrisian Wolf box and Wolf  Lord on Thunderwolf almost finished. I went with a red base for the Fenrisian's and a grey black for the Thunderwolf. I will post images when they are completed.

For some reason I can't post images or links here; my computer just locks up when I try? I have posted some images on my blog that I use for painting (I do model kit and other product reviews for the Michigan Toy Soldier store, I have just completed my second article for them).

My blog is at  yellowhorsemini.blogspot.com

Feedback on the overall appearance would be appreciated.

Thank you for the feedback. I was trying to make them unique; unfortunately I didn't see any of the 13th company or the Rhapsody ones. They look shiny do to my lighting and camera flash. I have sprayed them with dull-coat but the flash being so close gives them a shiny appearance in the picts.

I wasn't sure what to do with the shoulder pad wolf head. I had planned on painting it solid black but decided to outline it first. I figured if that failed I could always fill it in. I used a Reaper 10-0 brush and Vallejo gloss black for the runes and outlines. It seems to flow better on small items than the regular black does.

For my historical models I always wash after all of the detail is finished. On these I did the opposite and sprayed the base, shaded with a dark blue (Citadel drakenshade or something like that) and dry brushed with the Lead Belcher. I painted all of the gold items brass first and then used Vallejo Liquid Gold.

I hope my wolves come out ok. These are my first true try of doing animal fur.

Thanks again for the feedback.
