Right then! Similar to the 30k Hobby Challenge over on the AoD forum, we now have a small, monthly (if it goes well) modelling event. Yippee! It's rules are self explanatory; pledge a model or models to build or paint, and earn points for your faction. Making multiple pledges is allowed. At the end of the month, the faction with most points wins. No pressure, though, as this really is just a fun aside to our main project to boost motivation of those who want to take part.

Now, down to the scoring system. As I highly doubt we'll be seeing hundreds and hundreds of models being churned out, the points system reflects a slightly smaller scale of production.

BUILDING:
Infantry, bikes - 1 point
Vehicles/Monstrous Creatures - 3 points
Primarchs - 8 points

PAINTING:
Infantry - 2 points
Terminators (or similarly sized models) - 3 points
Vehicles - 5 points
Primarchs - 10 points

FOR REFERENCE:

Feb 2016: pg. 1 - 3
March 2016: pg. 3

April 2016: pg. 3 - 4

FEBRUARY 2016

To kick things off, I'll pledge to paint:
-1 corrupted Godslayer

I'll try and get the Cataphractii TDA Character I have done for this; I wasn't really going to use him for much else anyways, oddly enough :p

Will also give me a way to try and represent a Wave Blade if all goes well!

I'll finish the 10 breachers I have assembled, although all I need to do is chop and change some limbs, paint the bronze and nuln oil wash them. Seeing as that's unlikely to be hugely onerous, I may also attempt to get some of my assaulters done.

So, he's done. Using BFTBG as a Red has the adverse effect of being so high gloss that you cant properly take pictures due to the glare.

Pictures also dont translate the Blue Properly since it too is Pearly in consistency and with the light needed to film it properly, it just gets washed out in the glare.

I will say that painting the Iridescent White/Pearl Over Black Primer as I did in this case, while difficult to properly build up due to its consistency, produced an effect I actually prefer vs over a White Primer where, in that case, just looks like shiny white.

I pledge two Vet. Tactical squadrons, a forge master, 1 legion Champion 1 siege breaker, and 1 Vindicator to be built and painted this month

Depending on circumstances I will add a plasma cannon heavy support squadron, a missile Launcher Heavy Support Squadron, a Rotator Cannon tactical support squadron, a Ironbound Slayer Clan, 1 totem guard clan, and Lord Chief Ro'beaird Damon Redd to this pledge.

Its how I paint.

I only ever paint in a single sitting of 4-5 hours at any given time. Its exceedingly rare for me to take more than that to paint any one model let alone a squad of 5-10 whom I do in the same amount of time.

Same with Vehicles. IE: It took me 4 hours to paint my Spartan, LR Achilles, LR Phobos, 2 Rhinos (together), etc. each in their own Separate sittings.

Sometimes I even Build -> Prime -> Paint Model(s) in the same 6 hour Period if I feel so inclined :p

So while the speed sort of precludes any use of "higher level" techniques or uber-neatness in terms of painting (All my stuff is ever-so-slightly sloppy even by my standards :p) it also trains me to be able to achieve certain effects efficiently and rapidly and to replicate them unerringly across all the models I decide to use the effects on.

All done!

First post has been updated with points.

Orange is not fun to paint.  The spoilered pics have pretty bad lighting; I might fix that later on.  But for now, a measly two points for the Traitors!  All Hail Icarion!

Rather than make a new thread for one question I thought I would ask here. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make a backpack for a marine that would look suitable for Jet Pack Infantry and not look the same as a Jump Pack?

I've had a couple of ideas, mostly based on altering the MkIV Jump Packs, but none have worked out very well. So I'm hoping someone can spark a new idea for me.

Go for something like this: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/287452-wolf-packs-hh-projects-x-legion-moritat/?p=4290690

But with a Single Thruster and 4 Maneuvering Vents (2 on each side) Mk IV Jump Pack Style.

Well i use the old raptor backpacks for gwalchavad and they look ace and different. If i can get somebody cast them, all of my marines will get those.

The closest would be from kromlech.

Or you can go down the puppet war route:

Also avaiable with wings to make Raktra fear you;)

There are also some patterns from different companies but max mini and spellcrow look more like traditional jumppacks or rockets on the back.

You could try an build something with lego bricks.

Thanks for the quick responses guys. I had seen the Legionary jump packs from kromlech before, but not the chaos ones. I may have to bite the bullet and pick a pack up just to try out. And I hadn't thought of just adding additional secondary thrusters to the pack. It might change the silhouette enough to look right. Time to get the green stuff out again :)

Tada!!!! Je presente le gallerie (my french is worse than my english, but I can't resist)

The airvents are missing. Must be in another bitzbox, but I hope this will do the job
