You Will Kneel - Armies of Dark Compliance Thread

Since everyone's excited about Shattered Legions and Black Shields, I was hopeful that there's some excitement for Armies of Dark Compliance.

Here are the rules, in case you missed them: (larger format here)

I'm excited because I have a pretty insane amount of Cultists (~180) to use as 40k renegade guardsmen, and they will be perfect for Inducted Levy squads in 30k. Previously, I found the Militia/Cults list pretty boring, but mixing in some Astartes elements will make them far more exciting! I was very disappointed that M/C only had access to the Baneblade itself and no variants (I love the Stormlord), and now FINALLY this heretic can put together my Stormlord since Astartes can take them.

The primary motivation for pursuing this army is the minimal purchases I'll have to make. I already have lots of Renegade => Militia models, so adding a few units from the Word Bearers will spice things up. Been holding off on assembling my Fire Raptor for years now due to boredom with my CSM, but I think this will be the time to include it in my army. A few HQ characters to convert, some Gal Vorbak, maybe a Deredeo, possibly a unit of Veterans should be all the resin I'd need to make this a real army.

I guess if you think about it, it's sort of a 30k version of a CSM army. But this time, we can still use all the fancy loyalist toys because we didn't forget where we put them 10,000 years later. At this juncture only Word Bearers made sense for that purpose.

An allied detachment of Daemons will be the icing on the cake. Pure Khorne, of course biggrin.png.

Yep - think the list variants will work great for:

- Word Bearers leading a Chaos Cult - basically similiar to the old EoT Lost and the Damned list

- Sons of Horus with Davinite Priests and Warriors

- Alpha Legion and agents

- Emperors Children leading a pleasure cult force (like their appeareance in Angel Exterminatus)

I've already brainstormed a force for around ~3k points, bearing in mind costings won't add up yet as I don't have the latest rules.

Very exciting:

HQ

World Eater Gahlan Suk apothecary person

2x World Eater Despoilers loaded in Phobos LRs

1x Storm Eagle loaded with Red Butchers

2x Apocs for Despoilers

2x Inducted Levies with CC weapons & explosion collars

1x Force Commander, Abhuman Zealot & Tainted Flesh

1x Warhound Scout TItan

Now my problem is, where to get 100 lobotomised madmen for the levies :|

I was sorta sketched out by the Tainted Flesh provenance while making my plans. The wording didn't take this army list into account, but it says:

The only HQ choices the detachment can take are the Force Commander and Rogue Psyker entries.

Which sucks, because I really want rending hordes! Not sure if/how we can get around that. Rending hordes are awesome, but without an Astartes HQ it feels like the whole purpose is defeated.

So, would a WB AoDC need to ake an extra Chaplain or Centurion? o.Ô Not sure on the wording...

Yeah I'd think so, but their Legiones Astartes rule doesn't say the first HQ choice has to be from the WB, only that a 2nd one is required for the list and it has to be Chap/Centurion. Seems like a pretty good way to get the Force Commander and the WB leader in the list.

Question regarding iron warriors.

In 40k the iw made extensive use of slaves as cannon fodder. Did they do so in 30k? If I recall correctly, perturabo said that everything is a resource. Would this be easily used to represent that?

Inducted levies for daaaaays, brother.

And yes, the Iron Warriors used slaves in 30k. Very much so. Even more after Heresy.

since the militia is of the same faction as the solar auxilia can't you pick superheavies from that list?

Am I missing something? Is it basically just a cover save provided for astartes?

Cover save PLUS negation of AP value.

The latter part is huge. It means fleshy meatbags can soak up plasma and lascannons designed to kill your expensive units.

The thing is, the unit takes wounds whether you save or not... So even if you roll 3- on that save and lose a marine, you still take 1d3 hits on the militia unit. Still worth the cost, but not as OP as you seem to make it sound.

They have different options for superheavies. Militia gets the Baneblade and Stormhammer. Not terrible choices, but would have been cool to have access to more.

Ahh damn it, I thought it was the militia took the entire hit.

So only the militia eats the AP vaue, terminators will still take hits at AP2 from plasma if they fail their cover save? :(

I'm pretty sure that you're reading it incorrectly. The wounds suffered by the militia unit don't have any AP value, not the wounds suffered by the Marine unit gaining the cover save.
