Frater Cornelius
Here's the dilemma. I like the heavy look of the Mk3, but I can not afford an entire army in resin on top of all the special pieces like Dreads and so forth, neither do I want to deal with so much resin infantry. I do have the Calth box at home, though, and I like it well enough. However, does anyone have an idea how to make the Mk4 look a little more bulky but still keep true to the original form? Cheers ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/319039-making-the-mk4-look-heavier/ Share on other sites

norngahl
Which Legion? Some shoulder pads upgrades are quite massive. You can simply add some pockets or trophy stuff, grenades, guns or knives or whatever around the belly and on the upper part of the legs, that works quite well for me. Frater Cornelius
@ Atia - Those look pretty sweet. I am not sure I can replicate it well enough though. @ nornghal - None in particular. This would be a custom project if I can get my lazy arse to actually see it through :P The basic idea is to make them look somewhat knightly without straying too far from the original Space Marine look. Frater Cornelius
I think I know what the issue is. It probably has to do with the proportions. Compare it to one of my favourite images of a Space Marine (yes, it is Mk7 and we are talking about Mk4, but the point still stands), the models from Calth look rather light compared to that heavy feel of that Marine in the image. So I suppose I could ask how to make an Mk4 Marine feel heavier when you look at one. The Destroyers from above are a good start, but how to replicate that effect on a plastic model (without buying too much resin as I can only afford so much). Atia
Really good green-stuff skills?^^ No clue buddy :< But I'll use some destroyers for mark IV breachers in the future ^.^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/319039-making-the-mk4-look-heavier/#findComment-4301237 Share on other sites
Perry
Try using some MK II/ III pads, they bulk the model out abit. Here's the difference between some mk II/III pads and a mk IV pad on my Terror squads http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v465/Pezzar/terror%20squad%20progress_zpsmllkbnok.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/319039-making-the-mk4-look-heavier/#findComment-4301253 Share on other sites

Frater Cornelius
I wonder if it would be feasible to do a little Plasticard work and add extra armour onto the chest, arms and legs of the Mk4. Slips
Should be easy to do, Mk IV is mostly large flat surfacea. Just add rivets / bonding studs / whatever to, at the very least, the edges of the plates and youre good to go. Ishagu
I think the BaC models look plenty bulky when actually built. They stand up very well in that regard when placed next to the regular mkVII. What Legion are you building? The various upgrade kits sometimes make them look a bit more meaty... Well, they will have a similar aesthetic to the Ultramarines, though I want to avoid highly specific heraldry. The proble is that if you add too much bulk, and cover up all the exposed cabling, you end up with Mk7 armour...I noticed this after I'd finished sculpting and facepalmed. Then cutaway the sides again. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/319039-making-the-mk4-look-heavier/#findComment-4301794 Share on other sites

Then cutaway the sides again. As strange as it may sound, this is part of my intention. Keep it heresy-friendly but give a nod towards the Mk7 I have grown to like. Don't ask, I have something rather specific in mind but I would rather just do it instead just talking and getting nothing done yet again ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/319039-making-the-mk4-look-heavier/#findComment-4301808 Share on other sites
