Caillum
You won't be able to take Drop Pods for the Mor Deythan in Decapitation Strike - you'll need Orbital Assault for that. Darkwing Storm Eagles can be taken as DT's for them though, saving you the Fast Attack slots. The 2nd Support Squad might be better served with Volkite calivers - they're longer ranged than chargers and you don't have a Drop Pod for them, so you can stay backfield. I wouldn't take 3 Tactical Squads though - 2 is enough with 2 Support Squads. I get that this is meant to be a checklist, but you might struggle to field everything you own in most games. Maybe work towards an initial list and then add options to swap out for different games! :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/319154-xix-legion-raven-guard-list-to-be-used-as-a-check-list/#findComment-4304180 Share on other sites
Deekthegreat
Hmm well as it was pretty late last night when i ppsted that seems as i should have checked the book a little closer huh? Well then id probably look at some rhinos for the Mor'Dythan and probably realistically drop them to 5 man squads. I will take your advice and switch to calivers instead of chargers. Might also shrink the dark wings to a 5 man squad as well. Nobody around here really plays 30k so id be facing off against mainly 40k stuff and this would include a war convocation and some iron hands deathstars and stuff. So alot was because i like the idea of it all and this is what would be alot of fun to me. Are dark wing storm eagles worth the extra 65 points to the base price i know they can outflank and stuff but that just seems steep for a flyer with no armourment changed. Nusquam
What makes the Darkwings good isn't when you compare them to Storm Eagles. It's that they can be given as dedicated transports to Mor Deythan and vets anytime. Thus freeing up your FA slots for Dark Furies, Lightnings, speeders etc. With the three added new deployment maps for 30k they're also a bit better thanks to built in outflank too. But these were just added in book 5 so they haven't become the norm yet. Caillum
They also have the TL lascannons upgrade included, so that's something to factor into their value. 25 points for Outflank, Stealth and additional DT options? Not bad. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/319154-xix-legion-raven-guard-list-to-be-used-as-a-check-list/#findComment-4305187 Share on other sites
Deekthegreat
Yea i see your point now that ive looked at them closer. So just so i can get a clear idea it sounds like playing raven guard the rite of war is the best way to run them and always using maun seems like the best option no matter whonyou play against. I plan on attending the las vegas open 30k event next year so i want to get used to an army and stuff. Has anyone bought the mor deythan squads from forgeworld? Can you fit the combi weapons set on them or no i dont wanna buy them if they cant take a weapon option on the model itd be sad Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/319154-xix-legion-raven-guard-list-to-be-used-as-a-check-list/#findComment-4306692 Share on other sites
