Masterplan96
If you run a POL list then you cannot take an allied detachment which is fairly straightforward. My question is can you take an allied detachment that runs POL , i.e. a standard AOD army as main detachment with no specific ROW and then an allied detachment with a Praetor and two squads of vets / terminators etc? Emperors Teeth
Unless it states you cannot use it as an Allied Detachment, then yes, you should be able to. You'll often see if you read through various Rites of War that specific rules are described where the Rite is used on a Primary detachment. These don't affect the army if the Rite is used on an Allied Detachment. For example: The Coils of the Hydra, Alpha LegionRite includes the following rule: • Subterfuge: An Alpha Legion force whose primary detachment is using this Rite of War adds +1 to determine who goes first or may re-roll to Seize the Initiative where allowed by the mission. An army with allied Alpha Legion don't get this bonus. Masterplan96
Cheers and that's the way I read it. Someone from another forum advised this was definitely a no no and would be considered very gamey. I disagreed. Brofist
This is a tough one because it's not explicitly stated, albeit I'd say the intention is clear. Some ROW state that they cannot take an allied detachment. The FAQ recently allowed for allied detachments to use ROWs provided they meet the criteria of the ROW and master of legion requirements. It is a bit gamey because the logic is contradictory- your primary detachment can't take a ROW, but your allied detachment can because it doesn't explicitly say it can't. I feel the intention is that a primary detachment counts as an ally for your ally detachment, therefore it would not fill the ROW criteria of no allies. You can certainly argue the other way. Bottom line- ask your opponent or league before you play. If you're able to, you'll also need to meet the 1000 minimum point size for your allied detachment to use a ROW. The only way around it is with a Delegatus. Theredknight
Are you talking about the same army legion? As far as I know, no, you cannot take an ally detachment of your own legion.. Brofist
That's another good point. You can't ally in your own legion, but I'm pretty sure he's asking if you run a legal allied detachment and then apply a ROW to it that states 'no allies' in the description. TemujinZero
It's not specifically forbidden, but it feels like it should be. Consider it opponent's position, and reflect on why you want to run it.
