Best tool to remove guns from metal mini hands?

I have this model:

I'm going to paint it soon.  I'm trying to figure out if I should try to replace that laspistol with a bolt pistol.

If I leave it as-is, it can be a counts-as bolt pistol... and if I use it as a company commander it would be wysiwyg.

Should I hack this model up?  If so, what do I use?  Jewlers saw?

I've done stuff like this a lot, and if I have no intention of saving the weapon, I just use clippers/sprue cutters to take off small pieces at a time and get as close to the hand as I'm comfortable with and then use a hobby blade and files to clean up what's left.

With an old metal model like that, carefully applied pressure and a sturdy blade can net you an intact gun and hand. If the gun doesn't need to be saved for later, then do as the good Brother Chaplain says, and clip it off.

Thanks guys, I do not need to keep the gun intact so I'll give the clippers way a try.

I have a fancy bolt pistol bit from a plastic commissar kit.  I'm going to try to keep the trigger finger/trigger guard area intact on this mini and I think it will fit well.

I'll post pics if successful :)

Nismogrendel,

Since I'm a packrat, I always like to add bitz to my bitz box.  I used a jeweler's saw on my female commissar and I'm glad I did. I ended up using the laspistol on a priest conversion a year or so later.  I'd say go with the saw. :)

I'd recommend a jeweler's saw. You'll lose a little bit of material, but it's safe. A large hobby knife could work too but it's very easy to slip and mess up the model with them.

Not to mention your fingers...

Cool model
