Either you love the background and want to connect a heresy army, or you don't. The same as any other army in the game.

 

The game is exactly the same, same rules, sand mechanics, just with various legion rules.

 

If you're upset your iron warriors in 40k are too similar mechanically to word bearers, then this gives you additional rules.

The thing that appeals to me is the customization.

I think is worth it, and if you want to use the same miniatures in both 30k & 40k, you can do if you don't take very exotic stuff like volkite weapons or battle automatas.

Heresy is great for customisation, and you won't get smashed off the table as you might playing against Eldar or Tau even with a themed list.

Heck, you can play your CSM and use HH rules, and just pass them off as heavily corrupted chaos servants.

That was my initial plan with my Csms only my kdk Csms and berserkers have the old style csm backpacks, horns and bunny helmets, my black Legion guys all have magazine fed bolters, turned around vents and no horns. I wanted a strong model distinction between my armies and the black Legion was to be a goatboy style Space Marines list that could be anything, but I've been liking how they handle with our adjustments to the game and Csms in general.
