Crimson King

Crimson King is being edited now  - would be released in early 2017.

How solid is this information? Where does it come from? My understanding is that the book is not finished at all.

So what is going on with The Crimson King now? The plot of Magnus the Red, the 3rd Primarch book out April 2017 is Magnus and Perturabo paling around. Meaning the Atharva quote is probably from that rather than the Crimson King, with the book taking place before he goes to Terra. That would also explain the 'it's not a flashback' remark. Is the 'reliable source' getting some crossed wires as there now seem to be 2 books, both by McNeil, but only one with a set release date?

The Magnus novella that McNeill was talking about is probably the Magnus Primarchs Book which will be out in a few months.

The Crimson King is the other project and as far as we know that is still in process.

From mister McNeil - 3/4 of it's is done and on edit. As I understand him - he doesn't finished the last part yet

Any word on whether this is out this year? I have a theory that it wont be out till next year January maybe? With maybe a x-mas EBook version?

Also anyone have any idea what this will be about exactly? I have not seen any blurb for it anywhere?

I would hazard a guess that it will most likely be out next year... i think the Magnus Novella as part of the Primarchs series is due in April so potentially after that. i certainly think we can expect a slightly slower pace of things next year, maybe a total of 4 new numbered novel releases including MOM though my money is on that being a Christmas Day special release this year happy.png

I would say it most likely continues from Thief of Revelations and picks up many of the subtle plot threads scattered throughout the rest of the Heresy where Magnus has either appeared or been name dropped... i.e Deathfire, Scars, Betrayer, The Seventh Serpent etc... though i really hope to see Lucius who's last appearance had him arrive on Magnus's doorstep and maybe others from the Emperors Children... maybe more of the crew from the Sisypheum too! biggrin.png

MOM would be this year - even late December that's still 2016.

I wouldn't be surprised if they'd release it in tandem with the regular release of the Magnus Primachs novella. I doubt it'd work out for a january release along with the limited edition, although a digital pre-release wouldn't quite surprise me anymore.

McNeill's Ultras and Kings Wolves were (along wid Abnetts Ghosts) indeed my introduction concerning fluff. dawn of War got me interested. I enjoyed the books.

But nowadays, I'd prefer other stuff.

But b1soul is right. They are a good start for younger readers. :)

I still like Warriors of Ultramar for its oldschool Tyranid invasion and all that. Dead Sky, Black Sun was the low point for me. Lots of cool ideas but too much desert for my taste. The Killing Ground was better again.

They're a product of their time, when expectations were different. Taking that into account, they still hold up.

McNeill's only good work is ATS in my opinion

...so I really hope Crimson King takes after that, not Outcast Dead or AE

Amen to that!

The Uriel Ventris books were, like all of McNeill's work, a bit hit and miss. But I still loved that demon locamotive...weird and wonderful and more akin to the old Ian Watson madness.

So true
